Even though we've all known that's wrong for quite some time now, why do you think Americans have allowed their government to continue with Guantanamo Bay and torture and things like that?

Because they don't want to face the truth. The truth, is painful. The truth is: that America isn't the land of the free and it sure as hell isn't the home of the brave. Homeless folks, folks dying from lack of healthcare, abortion clinic bombings, tainted water, poisoned air, Republican Child Molesters, the list goes on and on. This nation doesn't want to face it's sins. Because to do so, would be to admit that we've been sold a bill of goods. And many American's pride is more important to them than the truth.

Because Americans in general don't care about anything that doesn't affect them directly and even then, for as long as they have plenty of cheap beer, sports on TV, fast food and gas for those damn USVs, everything is fine

More knowledgeable minds than mine can answer better, but here are my thoughts: 1- Our elected officials talk a good game when trying to become elected, but change considerably once in office. 2- Not all of us are proud - or are ignorant - of places like Guantanamo Bay and Abu Graib (remember that one? I do!). What a few do does not represent what we would ALL do. 3- We have little power over what the few do. It is sad to say, but important to realize. When I see an opening, I will take it. Until that time, we are patiently waiting. 4- All is not fair in war. It is a nasty business, and sometimes things go wrong. The abuse, however, is completely unacceptable.......except when certain citizens of the world refuse to use the toilets provided becaue they happen to be facing east. It isn't ALWAYS our fault, you know.

i support closing it btw: because we need a scapegoat, someone to say these people are terrorist so we're going to put them in gitmo. which makes the president look like hes actually doing something along with the fact that we dont care...
