It depends, of course, on which side of the argument you're on. If you display 10 Jaysus fish on the back of your SUV, you're wonderful, if you display a Darwin Fish humping one of those Jaysus fish on your hybrid, you'll need a new windshield, tires and a bumper when you get out of the supermarket. Same works for gay marriage, abortion and or any of the other topics where the ones on the one side can show their love with baseball bats
-
I wouldn't display anything (if I had anything to display....)because I don't want to put my car or me into jeopardy.
-
Probably not .... There are a lot of nutbags in the world who are only too happy to vandalize someones vehicle or take their hate out on people in other ways. Publicly advertising your sexual or political prefereces could make you a target.
-
No unless you like to live on the edge so to speak. And even then - not a good idea.
-
No. I don't see the reason for it. I wouldn't see the need to announce anything personal, "I'm left handed! Honk if you are too!" Just realized there probably is a sticker like that! I have seen there is far more emphasis on high profile topics...perhaps intended (in some cases) to provoke a reaction possibly.
-
I used to display lots of bumber stickers, but they were all funny ones for the amusement of drivers beind me. I never posted any that were political or divicive. I didn't want to have to deal with some 'brave' vandal damaging my car when I wasn't around. Besides, it's not as if I would make any extra friends with similar viewpoints just by having a bumper sticker.
-
It's not something I'd do, and it's not something I've ever seen. I just wouldn't feel the need. Awful story, that.
-
When I first read you question I said to myself, free country, free speech, of course you should be able to display any of those things. Then after viewing that report I am sickened by this, imagine the pain and humiliations she experienced, those men were animals. Answering your question now I would say be cautious what you display. I have a religious symbol discreetly on my car, it would be a sad day if an atheist wanted to harm me just because of my beliefs.
-
The same thing could happen with regard to a sticker about a sport team. Not the rape, but perhaps beating the living hell out of someone. It isn't wise.
-
I've always thought it was tempting vandals to advertise anything, including political preference.
-
That is awful what that woman had to go through. A hyenous perpetrated crime of hatred and ignorance. And I sincerely hope for the perpetrators to be caught, brought to trial, and punished to the fullest extent the law will allow to. There is no justification, in my opinion, for such evil deeds. That being said, I have always wondered--and in some cases even questioned--the logic behind the desire and/or reason for someone touting her/his political affiliation or sexual orientation/preference. Those are questions I never ask to no one--for the simple reason that I just don't care about those things. So why some one needs to go pass others, with enthusiastic interst, displaying their sexual or political preference? There are much less thoughtful individuals who would construe such an eagerly pride display, as jeering at them--a taunt. I am a straight man, but I didn't choose to be born that way. So since it was not a choice, I don't see my gender and sexual orientation, to any degree, as consequential. I just don't see any reason for going around with stickers on my vehicle's bumpers announcing, with pride, my straightness, my maleness or my blackness. I have been discriminated against for no other reason than being black, but my pride does not reside on the obvious fact that, not by choice, I was born black. My pride consciously reside on the fact that I am an educated and decent human being who just happens to have, inconsequentially, a darker hue. orientation as consequential to any degree

While this story certainly is an example of depths to which some people have sunk. These criminals are the lowest, not because she was gay, simply because she was a person. These men would have probably perpetrated this act regardless of her orientation. That was their justification, I think people like this would have found another excuse for another woman. Having said all that, I do not know why anyone feels the need to advertise their sexual orientation anyway, I always thought a cross goes against the 2nd commandment, not worshiping idols etc..and political stickers are a waste of paper. Plus, with what I paid to have my bimpers rechromed, Nothing goes on them.....

It may not be the wisest thing to do but the back of my car is quite covered with such stickers, the centerpiece being 'Go ahead, argue with my stickers'. Haven't had anyone vandalize the car yet, rather unlikely since my views aren't terribly abnormal for the area and in any case such activity is likely to end very poorly for the vandal. If they wish to attack me personally, they are welcome to try.

I think it's tacky to put stickers on your car.
-
Should I not walk around with my step children because they are mixed races? Should I not walk around with their father because we are an interracial couple? Should a christian not wear a cross because of fear of rejection and violence. Most of us live in areas where this shocks us. Many countries do not get that luxury. I am proud of my family and I would buy those little people decals and post my interracial family on my car and be proud!!!!

Very sad. I read about that. Hate lives and always will and whatever excuse "they" use doesn't matter. We can't go around living our lives in fear of being attacked by despicable thugs. We hide who we are not because we're ashamed but because we're afraid. You never know why someone hates..maybe someone hates old people...do I stay inside the house for fear of irritating such a person? I think you have to live your life as if you are surrounded by normal, reasonable, just people. Otherwise you are living in a prison, fearing everything and everyone and it just doesn't seem like a life worth living. Happy Sunday!

I would say that the chances of something bad happening outweigh the chances of something good. I basicly think putting stickers on your car is pretty tacky and I don't remember the last time I did it.

I fortunately live in a large city where there is a large LGBT community, a large racial, cultural, religious mix...and yet, of course, there are still bigots. I happen to be lesbian, and heard this story recently and was horrified. But seriously, I don't think anyone should have to always live in fear and hide anything about themselves. I see right-wing bumper stickers that are clearly anti-gay (man symbol + woman symbol = marriage). I find it disgusting, but I would never vandalize the car or harm the person. This is a free country and we are entitled to free speech. Not all of it will be popular with everyone. I vote Democrat, but I would never harm anyone with a Republican candidate sticker on their car. Same goes with anyone displaying a "proud to be Catholic" sticker when I'm not Catholic. Or a sticker supporting the Cubs when I'm a Cardinals fan. Because of the hate that still exists in this world, I live a lot of lonely, miserable years in the closet fearing what others might think or do. I realized I'd never be happy if I continued that way. Sure, I have a small gay sticker on my car. And a Cardinals sticker, and a Boyd's bear sticker and a couple others. Yeah, my car has been broken into more than once (and stereo stolen), but that was before I had any "gay" sticker on my car. Those that would go berserk and commit such a horrible crime like this are in the minority, fortunately.
-
This was a despicable crime. The wording of the question, "Do you think it is wise to display emblems/stickers...." implies that it was, at least in part, the victim's own fault that she was attacked. This, too, is despicable.
-
Why not? I see people with crazy 'I hate Bush', 'Animals are better than people', 'Gay pride' stickers all the time. Would I ever display something like that? No. But all sorts of people driving old Volvos do all the time.
-
I am sorry that stupid people are misinterpreting the question. especially the one who thinks you are faulting the woman for the attack. wise. does it meet your needs... tacticaly it is not wise, it makes you stand out from the crowd and makes you a target, this is why albino animals rarely survive in the wild, they do not taste any better than their friends, they just stand out. stratigicaly it may be wise, if as a group you make yourselves more visible it might slowly deminish your opposition. however stickers are tacky, especially when they are for an election that has already ended (yes you, take that sticker off) what is more, seriously... most people would judge me a "bigot" if I had a "hetero pride" sticker on my car... that is the no different than a rainbow sticker except we would have to spell it because we have not made ourselves a symbol to identify ourselves from the rest.

Terrible what happened to that women. Spokes gal said something about being more acceptable/understanding of gays. She should have said of "ALL", understanding of color, creed, religion, believes , how your kid in high school , soccer moms and on and on.
