Depends on the person. Where did you find them, How long have you knwn them. Does other people share the same feelings. There are quite a few variables!

Im reminded of the old saying, "familiarity breeds contempt". We tend to discount the good things that those who care about us the most have to say about us because we think to ourselves "thats my (Mom, Brother, Friend, Wife, etc...) their suppose to say nice things about me." We tend to forget that these are the people who spend the most time with us and probably would know better than anybody else.

I think sometimes you can hear in the tone of their voice whether they are sincere! I also think that for the most part people are good and nice.
