Disappointment is a kind of grief. It is the loss of what was hoped for. Grief has a predictable pattern first identified by Kubler-Ross: Denial (finding it hard to believe that the loss has occurred), Bargaining (scrambling to fix the loss), Anger (realizing the loss has occurred and resenting how this has happened), Sorrow (hurting about the absence of what was once part of your world) and finally Acceptance (moving on despite a tender place where the hope used to be.) It is natural to want to take shortcuts with each of these stages, but ignoring them leads to sometimes regrettable substitutes for our lost hopes...the classic example being "rebound relationships".

the best way? well define best :D, what I'm trying to say is that disappointment chances raise as expectation so it looks like the best way to avoid disappointment is to lower your expectations but I'd rather say to better validate your expectations.

To live for yourself....don't worry about how your actions will affect the next person ....do what makes you happy..Life is to short to be disappointed..It's ok to feel hurt..but after the crying , drinking, and wondering why you have to pick yourself up and find another solution to your problem. Somtimes there is no doors that will be waiting already opened for you, so you might have to pick a lock or two ...or better yet ..throw a brick through it...that usually works
