  • in golgotha, on a hill called calvary. i think
  • According to the gospels, Jesus was crucified at a place called Golgotha. It was probably a small hill just outside ancient Jerusalem. The traditional site is within the area now occupied by the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Matthew 27:33 and Mark 15:22 say that the name "Golgotha" meant "place of the skull." From this, some people have suggested that the site may have been on a hill or next to a rock that was shaped like a skull. But this isn't certain. An article at http://www.gospel-mysteries.net/golgotha.html has a map of ancient Jerusalem which shows the traditional location of Golgotha. This is where the Church of the Holy Sepulchre was later built. There is a large rock inside the church which is believed to mark the exact spot.
