I was flabbergasted when I read this this morning. I'm wondering what is going through his head asking this man to speak? Considering this man's beliefs and the things he's said (like the quote you've posted), it IS a horrible choice. I'm not sure what the best what to go about it.....can comments be posted on his website?

____ not a shining example of the separation of Church and State.

An awesome thing he did to reach across the isle!!

Oh, wot the hell. The "Invocation" is a stupid, imposed, religious relic anyway. If we are actually going to try to unify, if we are really going to try to tolerate one another, if we really want to change for the better, then it's time to accept things and stop being howlers of criticism. Damn the man once he gets into office if you will. Leave him out of it for now. And try to be more agreeable, too.

his decision to make. It's his day after all. Think of it like a wedding. If the bride wants the bridesmaids to dress like they stepped out of a 1980s homecoming dance, you just suck it up and go with it because it's her day. (I do personally like the decision, though)

A bold move in recognition that the US is still full of religious people of good will and not run (yet) by the small but intolerant VOCAL minorit(ies) (and I ain't talkin' about skin color). I can feel the negatives tallying now...

Question was changed after I posted an answer. I wouldn't even answer THIS question. Sorry about the confusion.

of no interest to me. But looks like a lot of people who voted for Mr. Obama don't like it.

Personally I think it would have been a bad Idea for any president elect to, during this time of turmoil, have any figure that doesn't play a neutral role to most citizens of this country. A college professor, a former collegue, hell even John Mccain would have all be much better suited.

The best way is by doing what you are doing now. The media, forums, blogs, etc.... You know he has people on pay roles to follow the publics views on his decisions. I was a head line on AOL for the past few days. I think he had to have gotten the Idea by now... Especially as anti specific religion/goverment a good amount of liberals are. I think he's a repulican in disquise. HA.
-
I think we should handle it the way we handle all of our terrible presidents for the past 20 years. Re-elect them in 4 years and cry about it
-
I think he believes it is a good thing to do..or he wouldn't have done it. But the LGBT folks are not happy and I'm not happy only because it seems to disenfranchise them, if only for that moment in history. There are many others whom he could have chosen. Perhaps it will become clearer as time goes on.

I think it gave news reporters something to harp about until another piece of drivel presents itself.

I hope Obama has him hand out rights to everyone.

Let's see what he has to say before we condemn the choice. Some have speculated that this is the first of many choices that Obama will make that will be in an effort to bring people of opposing viewpoints together. I don't expect Warren to openly embrace gayness, but there may be some meeting in the middle that we are unaware of. It may not be as bad a choice as it first appears.

Rick Warren say that the Gay community is only 2% of the overall US population. In reality, Gay people account for 10% of the population…. This ultimately works out to mean the following: July 2007 estimated US population = greater than 300 million people Rick Warren’s 2% figure against this total would = 6 million total Gay/Lesbian/Bi/Transgender people in the USA. In reality the figure is greater than that, equal to 10% of the US population which equals 30 million total Gay/Lesbian/Bi/Transgender people in the USA. Rick Warren is willing to discount and forget about the difference, equalling 24 million people. 24 million people would have to disappear to allow Warren’s math to be correct. What does Obama have to say about it? “….It’s time to work together….” I know of another time and another country that wanted to erase certain groups from their overall population…. That country was Germany and the story we know too well…. The first group of people on their list to eradicate wasn’t the Jews…. Anyone want to guess which group the Nazi’s “forgot about” first?

He said he was gonna' try and bring Americans together and I would imagine that the Rick Warren selection is part of that. Besides he spoke at Pastor Warren's Church once. No need for everyone to get up in a tiz.
