I think simple living is mostly done by farmers and people who learn to live off the land. Thrifty living is done by people who are not wasteful, they do things to stretch a dollar. Poverty living are people who are down on their luck due to many different circumstances either brought on either by misfortune or past bad choices. Laziness caters to the chronically unemployed. There are jobs out there - if you are willing.

Simple living means living without the modern gadgets we used to. No dvd, mobile phon and such. Not neccersary cheap when you like antics. Thrifty living gets the most out of everything you buy or make. Reuse packiging materials, buy uni sex cloth for children, share tools with your family or neighbours. Poverty living is when you don't have enough resources to cover the bare necceseties, like food, shelter, education for children.

The difference is choice. We can choose to live a simple lifestyle, or a thrifty lifestyle, but in poverty there is no choice - you just have to live a simple and thrifty lifestyle. I am gainfully employed, but I live a simple and thrifty lifestyle - I just do not like waste, and do not like wasting money on fripperies - so I do not have satellite TV, I do not have an ipod, and I take pleasure from getting bargains! In this era of the credit crunch, many shops are holding their sales before Christmas instead of afterwards - I wandered round stores yesterday, many of them advertising up to 30% off, and could not find anything I needed! I buy what I need, when I need it, recycle, avoid waste as far as possible, and save my spare cash for my retirement. But then again, I have seen some chronically unemployed who spend more money in a week than I do! I suppose if you are chronically unemployed expensive gadgets like satellite tv are more essential !

Poverty living is a matter of necessity. Simple and thrifty are similar. A thrifty lifestyle excludes things and activities that are expensive and not enjoyable enough to justify the cost. Simple living is a matter of having only a few activities, all meaningful. A person with a thrifty lifestyle can adjust to poverty when needed.
