Why do college college soccer goalies wear completely different uniforms than their team?

It is tradition in Soccer/Football that the Goalkeeper always wears different colours.This enables the rest of the team to pick him/her out more easily in Goal mouth melees. The keeper must be distinguishable from the rest of the team. Also the Referee needs to see that the arm reaching for the ball is not that of an outfield player.
