If you're talking about friends who stick with you versus those who dump you, yep it's true. They're called "fairweather friends".. they are right there when everything is hunky dorry and invisible when things go sour for you. Fortunately I've only had a couple of them in my life..the false ones. All the others have been true blue/genuine/real! :)

...adversity has a strange effect on people, and depending on the degree of adversity a person can become someone they are really not. A strong person under 'normal' circumstances can fold like accordion. and someone who is seen as week under 'normal' circumstances can become as a warrior. It will most definitely show you your strengths and weaknesses

Sure. Anyone can be there during the good times. It's the people who are there for you in sunshine and in shade - the tried and true - that shows what's true.

Absolutely. Testing the metal. It's really easy to "be there" for someone .. when times are good. In fact, it even applies to business alliances where everything is great .. in good times. But in either case, if times are tough .. that's when you find out who your real friends are (they are still there) .. and who your real business partners are (if a client is escalating, they are there to help solve the problem). Words can come easily. But actions and behavior should match those words .. in good times .. and bad. Sometimes adversity knocking on the door is actually a good thing. It can literally tell us who our friends really are. After that? Well ... let's just try to keep the adversity levels down to a dull roar.

Yes. Adversity does separate the sheep from the goats. In an adverse situation you really learn who is there for you.
