  • Joy is not simply your personal, egoistic happiness. Nor is it making others happy at the expense of your own happiness. You and others delighting together, you and others becoming happy together - this is the Mystic Law and the wondrous thing about our realm of kosen-rufu (world peace). The Daishonin (13th Century Buddhist reformer) states, "Joy means that both oneself and others have wisdom and compassion". by Daisaku Ikeda
  • This makes my head hurt, frankly. It is far too complicated. I feel joy when I see a rainbow..how is that being self-centered or selfish(an egoist)? I am joyful just to wake up every morning pain-free...I feel joy when great things happen to people I love, people I like, people I don't even know. Joy is a feeling of unbridled happiness..it can be tracked to something specific or it can simply just be. I feel joy when I am cooking...when I see the ocean..when I hear people laugh..when I see my son..when Jim hugs me..when I let people in front of me at the check out line and they smile and say "thank you very much". If you feel joy, it is not possible to separate yourself from it..at least, I don't know how that would work exactly. Perhaps you can explain it? :)
  • Joy is the purpose of life. When God created us (and everything else) He did it so that He could have the joy of parent/child relationship which is meant to be the ultimate joy along with marital bliss. Unfortunately, because of the failure of Adam and Eve, God has never had that joy except with Jesus whom we murdered before he could bring God the joy of grandchildren. In the ideal, man makes oneness with God's masculinity and woman makes oneness with God's femininity. Then, in their union, the child is a direct reflection of God. That would be God's ultimate joy. Since God has never experienced that, no matter how happy anyone has ever been, the true, ultimate JOY has never been experienced.
  • Joyful. Good for you.
  • At the risk of getting negitives, I must disagree with the quote. I don't find joy to be dependant on those around me. I have been joyful while surroundded by those who wished me failure and hated my joy. I must agree that there is more joy when it is shared with loved one's though.
  • overjoyed ~ the vision of world peace brings tears of joy to my eyes.
  • reading that makes me wish those great thinkers were still around sharing their wisdom, I love the idea of humans enjoying eachother on a large enough scale to experience that joy
