i can give you a few basics to get started, but this is way too much info, since i can go very in depth about history and beliefs. perhaps if you were a little more specific about what you want... 1)Christianity - technically an offshoot of Judaism, the founder was Jesus. fundamental belief is that you can achieve salvation through Jesus and the forgiveness of sins. the greatest thing you can do as a Christian is give to the needy, love your neighbor, etc. most associated symbol is the cross. the sacred text would be the Bible. 2)Islam - founded by the prophet Muhammad. i could not sum up one "fundamental belief" for them, that would be best left to a Muslim to answer, but again one of the greatest things you can do as a Muslim is give to the needy. the symbol would be the crescent moon and star. the sacred text is the Qur'an. Muhammad was living in Mecca when he first recieved revelations, but Islam really developed a greater following in Medina. 3)Hinduism - does not have a founder, but instead is based off of their secred texts -the Vedas. was influenced by the invasion of the Aryans from Europe. they believe in reincarnation and karma, among many other things but these are the most familiar ones, as well as achieving enlightenment. there are many gods associated with with Hinduism, including Brahma (the creator), Vishnu, and Shiva. 4)Buddhism - i do not have extensive knowledge of Buddhism, so i will leave this for someone else. 5)Judaism - founded by Moses, who recieved the Torah and the 10 commandments. sacred texts include the Torah, Oral Torah, rabbinic commentaries, and for some, the Zohar. symbol of Judaism is the star of David. again, one of the greatest things you can do as a Jew is to help the needy, but given all the branches of Judaism (reform, orthodox, etc) it is hard to pin down a fundamental belief, so perhaps someone else should answer this as well. hope this helps a little, there is a ton of information out there on the subject but it requires a lot of research and reading. all of these religions have been around for an immensely long time and have a vast amount of history and complexity.
