Some do some don't. Just like some straight people don't care if God recognizes there marriage and some do. I am not sure if you are asking why because you think it is wrong or because you don't believe in God.

Some gay people still identify themselves as Christians and want the approval of a higher power, but for the most part gay people simply want the rest of the world and the government to recognize their union. There are alot of issues that can challenge a gay couple. For example, a gay couple could be together for 30 years, but if one of them is suddenly hospitalized from a terrible accident or something their partner would not have any legal say-so when it comes to their medical care. (Unless, of course, they took other legal steps to give their partner power of attorney.)
-
In my experience (which like any, is limited) God doesn't really come into it- it's more about having your union recognised by other people- mainly your family, your friends, the state- and about having a way to show your absolute commitment and fidelity to that other person. (The same is true of many heterosexual couples- otherwise atheists would never get married. Which of course they do.) The two gay couples I know who have seen fit to undergo the civil partnership ceremony, would probably best be described as agnostic. I certainly never heard either of them mention God as a reason for choosing to marry.

Gay Marrage is not necessarily about God. I find that it is more about social rights, equality and formally marking their relationship.
-
I think the majority of them just want society, and more importantly the government, to recognise their union. Once they are officially recognised as married couples they are entitled to various legal protections that make life easier for them. Why anyone would seek to deny them these rights is beyond me. People who actively seek to make life harder and more problematic for gay people are stupid, hateful and primitive types, with a natural aversion to thinking for themselves!
-
Since God is supposedly against Gays I doubt they want him in thier marriage unions...
-
I don't think they want God to recognize them, they just want the government to.
-
most of gay people I know dont want GOD to recognize their union, they want the Government to. They want "god" to butt out!
-
Any gay person who is in a relationship and cares about God, already believes that God DOES recognize their marriage. The marriage movement in the gay/lesbian community is primarly targeting Civil marriage. There is no desire to force churches to marry or even recognize anyone's civil marriage. It is about equality under the law -

I personally don't believe in god, so I have no interest in having god recognise my MARRIAGE, whether it be to a man or a woman. Some people who believ in god who are gay, just like people who are straight, would want to have a religious ceremony andhave god recognise their union. Not everyone does, and it's not dependant on who they sleep with.

What in the world makes you think that Deity doesn't recognize their union? Is it because you don't? Because some governments do not? Because YOUR religion does not? Because you BELIEVE Deity doesn't? Not all deities (or all concepts of Deity) are anti-homosexual. Wicca, for instance, is very accepting of homosexuals, and their marriages. So are our deities. Indeed, there is no proof that the Abrahamic deity has any problem with homosexuality beyond what a few of His believers wrote on a scroll thousands of years ago. Not all Christians, Jews, etc consider this to be the literal belief of Yahweh. Some gays are Atheist, and couldn't care less what anyone says a deity recognizes. They don't believe in one.

I personally couldn't care less if a Brick and Mortar CHURCH recognized my union...I JUST WANT MY CIVIL RIGHTS AS A CITIZEN OF MY COUNTRY TO RECOGNIZE MY PARTNER AND I AS A FAMILY!
-
The religious one's do,and the others don't give a damn.If they are part of a religion they want to be recognized.Bigotry has no place in religion though it runs ramped .
-
I don't believe in God. So that said, the only thing I am interested in is equality of services & rights rendered to all people.
-
I don't want God to recognize my marriage. I don't believe in the god of organized religion. What I did want and got was Equality.

Personally, after almost 27 years of marriage to my Best Beloved I've given up the thought of a church wedding; but I can see the need for it in the Gay Christian Community. My thoughts are those priests, pastors and ministers who are willing to do the services should be allowed to do so despite the grumblings of their congregations. Besides, doesn't the "spiritual head" of the church have their best interests at heart anyways (snicker snicker snicker) She/He would be showing Human Compassion and Christian Love for one's Neighbor. Besides last time I looked, God loved us all anyways.

Some gay couples that get married might not believe in God. They just want the world to know or friends/family to know that they truly are together now and are going forward a big step in the relationship. They have committed to being together forever...even though there are divorces.
