  • Probably my fondest memory of Elder Wirthlin was about a year ago, when he was speaking in General Conference and it became increasingly—and very noticeably—difficult for him to stand. Elder Russell M. Nelson, also of the Twelve, approached the pulpit and literally held up his brother in the Quorum, and remained there until Elder Wirthin had completed his talk. I also always enjoyed Elder Wirthlin’s story about playing college football, when another young man named Gordon Hinckley approached him after a game and complimented him. Kind of neat that they’d go that far back, but then they were first cousins. ;-) Finally, I absolutely *loved* Elder Wirthlin’s last General Conference address, “Come What May, and Love It.” Check it out at http://tinyurl.com/wirthlin-cwm . Thank you, Elder Wirthlin. You’ve served the Lord well. :-)
