  • Not very much just that they play Music in the street to collect money for Charity. They do a lot of Charity work. They are a Denomination of the Christian Church.
  • Sorry I cheated.. I know they do good work and I put money in there buckets every Christmas and I give my old cloths to them. The Salvation Army is a Christian charity and church that is internally organised like a military service. Its founders William and Catherine Booth sought to bring Christian salvation to the poor, destitute and hungry by meeting both their physical and spiritual needs. The Salvation Army is both a charity and social services organization; and a denomination of the Christian religion. One of its stated objectives is: The advancement of the Christian religion as promulgated in the religious doctrines . . . which are professed, believed and taught by the Army and, pursuant there to, the advancement of education, the relief of poverty, and other charitable objects beneficial to society or the community of mankind as a whole.
  • Around here they have a men's only shelter that is open at night and weekends with very limited space. I know they pay bell ringers to collect money at Christmas and they do Christmas basket/toy basket things for those in need. They have thrift stores but other than that..not much
  • I know now they can swipe your credit card when they are collecting money.
  • yup, i certainly do know of them :) there's a salvos shop around the corner, and there are sometimes guys on the streets holding tins collecting money from people as they drive up to a red light :)
  • As charities go, the Salvation Army is one of the best. They really do what they say they do, and they have some of the lowest administrative costs around. In other words, when you donate to them, you get about the best bang for your buck!
  • The Salvation Army is a regressive, fundamentalist religious organization which spreads its religious dogma by propagandizing the weakest members of society at a point in their lives when their resistance is especially low. The Salvation Army often receives funding from the State to provide food and shelter to the homeless, which they use to brainwash their victims with their christian ideology. They do this by providing two-tiered service, in which those who go to church services (which are supposedly optional) and convert to their religion receive better care than those who do not. Historically, the Salvation Army was used by the capitalist robber baron bosses to break up union meetings by playing their full brass bands right beside the union gatherings. As a result, the Industrial Workers of the World began composing union songs to the music of traditional hymns, so that they could sing along with the music. These union fight songs are now famous worldwide and still used often by the labour community -- without the Salvation Army accompaniment.
  • Many people view the Salvation Army as a socialist movement when it is the complainer who might have cross--ties with other political beliefs. Maybe they had a bad experience and havent healed. I read recently that 75% of the USA is considered Christian. Theres room for others. You have to choose what you believe in. The Salvation Army to me is a Christian organization. They take people who are down on there luck; give them shelter and meals and in return they expect them to work an 8hr. day /little or no pay. And give them a Bible. I never used there services so I have nothing to gain or lose but I learned about them from other trusted guys. Im a spiritualist not a Christian but Ive looked into it prior.
  • They have virgin sacrificies in the woods once a month and they all wear the clothes and shoes that you donate to them for the occassion
  • I know they collect money at Christmas time, but I don't know what they do with the money.
  • i know that the salvation army helps alot of people to the best of their ability and they usually do help alot
