  • That Escoban outfit that is sold on television for $199 is actually not a bad guitar. It is an acoustic-electric guitar, and it includes an amplifier and DVD lessons. Some of my students have showed up with this, and I see nothing wrong with it. Also, there's a brand of Chinese guitars called "Sunlite" that seem to be of consistently good quality and, in my opinion, are superior sounding compared to other more popular makes such as Yamaha and Fender. Epiphone guitars are also a good value. The have a few acoustic guitars that can be bought for under $200, and you don't have to apologize for the brand name on the guitar!
  • I have played an Escoban. Ibanez is light years ahead of this guy. Plus you can actually play an Ibanez before you buy it.
  • For the beginner the Fender DG 8 package is an excellent value. It has a solid sikta spruce tope with mahagony laminate sides and back. It comes with a gig bag along with a digital tuner and a useful dvd to get you started. Also comes with an extra set of strings. Eventually you will want to get different brand of strings such as Daddario ,Elixer, or Martin. I would get custome light which range from the 6th string being .52 to the first string is an .11. Still gives you easier strings to play but still sounds wonderful.
