The original name the Spanish Conquerors gave to those islands was the Islas Filipinas, named after King Felipe of Spain. Filipinos was the original name for the natives of those islands. When the name was translated to English, it was spelled with a Ph instead of an F, because it was easier to make it sound like the original for the new American Conquerors.
