first course of action remove the battery and power lead, reconnect the power lead, and press the power button to see if it works,
If the battery has failed it can cause a short circuit preventing the laptop from starting

Lightning struck near my house last night causing my accidentally plugged in laptop to spark at the place where it was plugged in. the laptop works but refuses to charge. Is this an internal problem or a problem with the power cord?
