If the Earth exploded, would the rocky remnants spread the elements necessary for life, across the universe? In this way, would the destruction of Earth actually lead to a massive multiplication of all life?

I'd have to take objection to your premise that the Earth could explode. Here's a link to a treatise on "How to Destroy the Earth," which shows that it's darn near impossible: http://qntm.org/?destroy There Have been theories that Life on Earth developed from such a phenomenon, but I'm agin 'em.

The elements of life are already present throughout the universe; they manifest themselves given the right environmental conditions, such as the correct distance from the sun. Earth is not the only planet in the universe at the correct distance from its sun; being that the universe is endless, there must be trillions upon trillions of other planets out there that, like Earth, are at the right distance from their suns to sustain life.
