I was homeless for almost a year, i tried to get a job, they told me to get lost because i had no home address.

Have you heard the news? We're in a recession. Jobs are scarce. Unemployment is high. However, if you have a job, you could hire the transient to do yardwork, or house cleaning, or to give you back rubs.

Homeless people have multi layered problems. this is not an easy answer to give because each person is homeless for individual reasons..Here, in Vancouver, at least, a lot of our homeless people are simply mentally unstable individuals..Life is tough. Unfortunately a lot of people fall by the wayside and just can't keep up or compete.

I'm not.I give when I want to and I don't when I don't.
-
I would hope that you never have to face the real world, being knocked off your perch might be a VERY long way down!
-
No, I'm not annoyed. They have little-to-no means to get a job.
-
Have you ever tried to get a job as a homeless person? I'd venture to say without an address or phone number to get call-backs it would be pretty tough ..
-
It's very close to impossible to get a job when you don't have a home address. Put it this way. If you were on the streets, with no money or food, and you had to find some way of surviving, wouldn't you ask for money in the hope that one kind soul will spare even 20p, which could buy you an apple or a banana?
-
In case you haven't heard, there aren't too many jobs available.

This probably won't help much; I don't know what to make of it myself. I passed by a woman begging in the street; she saw something in my eyes maybe, so just before I was out of reach she asked me for the time. I gave her the time and started walking away; then I turned around and went back to her. I felt compelled to ask her why she was doing this (she looked like a perfectly capable 60 year old woman). She told me she was HIV positive ... I asked her if she was on Section 8 (government housing program), she said no, another housing program. Then she said, with the money she got from begging she was able to finance a little street stall, featuring knicknacks (if thats the right word), next to her spot. A gentleman stood behind it, attending as might be necessary. I walked away, maybe with something to think about, but it still hasn't quite crystalized.

No, I'm much more annoyed at all the dead people in cemeteries. They're not doing anything, just taking up space. That's good land that could be enriching a real estate developer.
-
Apparently not.

Do you pronounce your AB name with an OO (as in cool) sound for th U and the CH pronounced like SH. That would make you "DOUCHE-ESS"? Just wondering?
-
No, phone or address prety hard to get a job i would think...hard enough when you have a phone and address.
-
Well if jobs are so easy to come by why do you not go to your boss and tell him you are giving your job to this homeless person to help them out. Then go find yourself a different job. After all there are many homeless people out there that fought for your freedoms and yet we treat them like that.
-
so they are standing there holding signs asking for a job, knocking on car windows asking for a job?... is that what your saying ... well then they ARE looking for a job! and anyone with logic will say the same thing. As for your assertion in other parts of this thread that " every homeless person chooses to be homeless" is a joke in the extreme and a total load of first class B.S. ... and your other clanger is its just as hard to be a millionare as being poor or homeless really shows that your are a first class airhead ... in my time here on AB I have read some halfarsed things written but this takes the cake
-
While knocking on your window would probably constitute as trespassing, the homeless people who hold up signs have a good reason for doing what they do. Maybe some of them lost their homes due to high medical bills or some other misfortune. I'm sure that if most of them could get a job, they would, but in this day and age, jobs aren't available even to people who want to work.

Hey, everybody! Douchess is back!
-
Give them seeds to plant and grow their own food.
-
A fair question, sorry to see all of the DR's. I guess you've struck a nerve.
-
Funny thing ia ALL of us are only so many paychecks away from the street. if your spouse if you were in a car wreck, your spouse died and you were disabled , the insurance money runs out then what?
-
Why is it annoying? If you choose not to give them money, which is fine, you can always walk right on by. There is no reason to judge their journey in life or their moral fiber.
-
I just hand them fake money and let them enjoy the moment of getting a $20 bill...It's later that they find out the truth :) Gave one to a bum and he freaking chased my vehicle down the street. I tell you, they ARE funny!
