• No, I did have a nose job... a very extensive one. It was just reconstructive instead of cosmetic. I just happened to like my old nose so I told them to restore it to its original appearance.

  I am certain that if I disliked it I would have asked for some changes.
  .
  You can tell it was broken if you look closely at it today due to the small lump. The surgeon was hauling out bits of cartridge, filing, rebreaking it only the gods knows how many times, for a LONG time.
  .
  One of the joys of this type of surgery is you are alert for it all and watch.

• I'm sorry - When I referred to "nose job" , I meant the cosmetic one. Reconstructive or other nasal surgery is not plastic/cosmetic. Thx for the info. Sounds interesting.

• It actually was.

  He had a small hammer and chisel which he used to completely shatter the rest of my nose with only the gods knows how many short, sharp blows... that way allowing reshaping. He then pulled out many tiny bits of cartilage he either pulled off or cut off with a small set of some type of clippers. Then came the files. His nurse held my head still because it is impossible to hold it steady without the nurse. Afterwards he reshaped it, packing it with a solid 3 FEET of gauze per nostril (he must have gotten it up into the sinuses). He was so good that the finished product is almost identical to the original.

  Of course he was wearing glasses so I got to see the WHOLE thing. The only drugs you get are anesthesia and a sedative if you want one... you need to be alert and awake enough to follow instructions during the procedure. I did not want the sedative because I wanted to watch.

  I used to have a small jar with some of the cartilage in it.

• Strange in a cool sort of way. So you could see reflection of surgery in his glasses? You must have been on heavy pain killer meds even though you were conscious.
  I would have gone for the plastic part for all that grief...just because. I mean if you're going through all that, might as well get some mileage out of it.

• Yup I could see the entire procedure in the reflection. He went in through my nostrils and did it all through a small slit in tops of them.

  They give you heavy pain killers but not narcotic because you have to be alert so you can turn or tilt your head at the doctor's command. I do not know what the pain killer was. They offered valium as a sedative, which I did not accept, because I wanted to remember the procedure. The surgeon also talked to me through it, telling me what he was doing and answering my questions.

  I think what I had was a little more elaborate than most cosmetic surgery because my nose was, literally, flattened.
  .
  The pain came when the pain meds from surgery wore off! It also was fun when the packing was pulled out because part of the flesh from the inside of my nose and sinuses came with it. OUCH!

• Yah...I know the nose is a very sensitive part of the bod...It's all cartilage and skin with every little else...there's no wiggle room, just nerve endings. I've had eye surgery, same idea, drugged but alert because you had to keep eye open and fixed on an object. But very few nerve ending in the eye.

• I had it done in Dec 2005 in Rochester, MN...after 2 kids and losing a lot weight I was left with a "kangaroo pouch" and everytime I looked in the mirror that was the only thing I saw. Now, eventhough I am still heavier than I should be, it is actually possible to look in the mirror and not be totally disgusted with what I see...

• I have had a few gf have boob jobs but like you I would want the lipo..of course everytime I see it being done I cringe at the sight of that little suction rod going in and out....ouuuccchhhheeeeyyyyy....yes I am still a ways from even having lipo...LOL

• OH I KNOW...it would take MAJOR PAIN KILLERS....I had a friend that had lipo on her back years ago and she complained for weeks about how bad it hurt. I mean when you see it on the Discovery channel that are like just jamming it in there and you know they have to be saying to themselves "well she can't feel this". Ha yeah I am going to have to get much "saggyier" (not sure that is a word) ha!!

• I do not know how badly damaged yours is but, even with a top level surgeon, I do not have "normal" breathing through mine. It is, well, usable, but it is not "normal". If you wish, go read my answer to this one.
