  • I think if someone answers your question in a way that you disagree with it's not only acceptable but vital that we discuss that with them. Certainly there is no need for abusive language but reasoning your opinion against there's can be a very constructive experience and you may both learn a lot from it. This is, if you ask me, the whole point of posting conversational questions on AB. What annoys me is people down rating those who's opinions differ from their own.

  • I don't think it's necessarily a matter of ignorance. I think it is more intolerance and/or lack of ability to control ones temper. Most of us realize that with such a diverse crowd, disagreements are a fact of AB. Some people are super touchy and/or they cannot tolerate anybody else's point of view. I have always wondered how these people manage in the real world when they run into a person that thinks differently. No matter what, they only make themselves look foolish when they choose to flame rather than discuss in a civil maner.
