How long after a divorce decree is complete do you have the option to change your name?

My lawyer actually wrote up that clause in the decree to have it changed with the signature of the Judge during the hearing. All the other administrative items (updating license, ID, credit cards, etc) were left up to her... so there was no time requirement. Short answer is, you don't have to wait (at least not in my state)--check with a lawyer in your state to find out for certain. :)
