  • For most sins, the Church does not require that you see your bishop. For some, however, usually dealing with sexual transgressions such as fornication (premarital sex) and adultery, it is required to talk with your bishop as part of the repentance process. This is in order for him to help the person understand the nature of the sin and help them know what steps need to be taken to fully repent. For just about every other "less serious" sin, repentance is between the individual and God, and any person who has been wronged, of course.
  • Who forgives sin? Is it your Bishop or is it God? Why go through someone that does not have the power to forgive sin? Whether you steal a pack of gum or you murder some one God still has the power to forgive sin... not your Bishop.
  • The Bishop is not there to replace God, he is there to counsel and help with the repentance process, as some sins require forgiveness from others, i.e. if you have stolen something, then in repenting of that you would need to repay whomever you stole from
  • You people make your lives so much harder than they have to be and all for what? Cause all of that mambo jumbo doesn't make you better people at the end of the day
  • Any sin which may affect your standing within the Church needs to be confessed to your ecclesiastic leader. You may also confess other sins, especially if you need help overcoming it.
  • God says to come to him he is the one who created us and we are to confess directly to him and are immediately forgiven.
