Short answer: sure.

Are Mormons allowed to walk to the park on Sunday? Are Mormons allowed to listen to rock music?

Sure.

It's up to the people that this affects. In the LDS religion, it is a commandment to only be intimate with your spouse, and not to engage in premarital sexual relations.

In my opinion, I don't believe that our Heavenly Father would prohibit us from enjoying our spouse in the carnal flesh. We should not do anything that would make us unworthy to enter into the temple (not committing adultery, via sex parties), but I believe what is done in the bedroom, provided that it is for the gratification of the other, is right and acceptable.

Then the arguement goes: "Would you do that if Jesus was watching?" I would have a hard time kissing my spouce if Jesus was watching, much less make love, much much less use sex toys.

Personal preference, if you feel its acceptable then do it. If you have a question, ask your bishop. If you are afraid to ask because of the answer, then pray about it. If you're afraid to pray about it, then you have your answer: no.

My answer: I sure hope so and, yes.

- Nice rationalization. I hope when you stand before God on Judgment day he sees things your way. Until then, I'm betting that the hairs you are splitting will not go your way and that the people you intentionally or unintentionally lead astray will pray for the truth of such things and receive better counsel than anything any of us can provide them.

- we aren't being led astray. Whatever the couple is both comfortable with, they can do it. Obviously, if they are both living righteously , some things they shouldn't be comfortable with. But its up to them.

If they want to - the sex lives of married couples are their own responsibility. This is assuming everything is voluntary, no abuse or coercion, etc. One partner using sex as a weapon in a relationship is not healthy.

Since we have no reliable information on what is impure and unnatural, there's a lot of leeway here. What is comfortable for both husband and wife and does not cheapen the marriage relationship would seem to be fine. A marriage class at BYU many years ago said "as long as things wound up in the right place," there wasn't much that was off limits. You're left to your own determination of what's the right place, but I think most people can figure that one out on their own. There's a thriving sex toy business in Utah, btw.

I've heard different things on this, and I think it depends on who you ask. My Stake President said no because they tend to encourage masturbation. I've heard other devout Mormons say that certain types (such as vibrators or lube) are allowed while objects shaped like dildos aren't (because they're used in place of the partner). A former church president said not everything goes in the bedroom but wouldn't elaborate on what was forbidden.

Personally, I have no problem with them. They work just fine for both my wife and I.

No!!!

You will never be asked if you do, but you are not supposed to. The church has a policy of not asking you about specific sexual practices and leaves the guilt or shame of such acts, if you engage in them, as something you need to work out with the Lord. It all falls under the concept of unnatural and impure acts. They do counsel you not to go to the temple if you do though...

- I just get confused. I read through and it seems that about 50 % of all LDS people believe it's ok, and the other 50% are so avidly against if you would think God or the prophet came and told them in person. I don't get it. How is it unnatural and impure if it's for the benifit of your spouse and you're doing it out of love for them? This may be a little blunt, but to be honest, without toys I don't think my wife would be able to reach and orgasm and that just wouldn't be fair. I would feel bad for not being able to please her. When I can, it just makes our relationship that much more special.

- It sounds to me like no one really knows what you can or can't do in the bedroom, and those that say you can't, cant' back it up with anything other than that letter to the general body of the priesthood that I can't find anywhere except on here.

- Its true. I have talked to many people who are married (different states and different wards and everything) you can do what you want as long as its with your spouse (and it only involves you two) and you are both consenting, have at it.

- Your response does not answer the question it just offers your opinion or take on the issue. You who are not a church authority and probably an anti-mormon to boot. Misery loves company and as I see it since you probably feel you are headed to hell why not take a few others with you. Nice attitude there! The question asked is are sex toys allowed and the basic answer is a big fat no! They are not allowed, but that doesn't mean that if you, taking responsibility for your own actions as an adult and understanding the church's policy on the issue, choose to use sex toys you can't. The church will never ask you, but in your heart you will know what is right and what is not.
