Maybe because we are lonely. Just don't let it get out of hand, otherwise you'll begin to think that you are having conversations with other voices that are really in your head.

There are times when that is the best company you will find. Also it helps some to oragnize their thoughts if the verbalize them.

I often say things out loud out of frustration. Also, to recall something important at a later time(actually vocalizing it really helps in the remembering department). Of course, I justify it by aiming my comments toward my dog. That doesn't count as talking to yourself, does it?

Because I'm the only one who understands myself. If I say the things I say to myself to anyone else, they just give me a strange look.
