  • I prefer books in which the author's gender is not relevant. The book should stand on its own, without knowing about the author's gender. There are a lot of preconceptions about women authors. Most are sustained by discarding any author who doesn't fit them as not a "proper" female author. If you discard all the evidence sich doesn't fit the result you want, you can prove *anything*.
  • I give it no thought actually. If i like a book i will buy it with no concern as to the gender of the author. And no, no pre-conceptions about female authors.
  • I'll read any book if it's good. Think about J.K. Rowling. Everyone reads or read Harry Potter...and she's a woman. So it's not about the gender, but what the mind contains. I am a man, but I could possibly write the best romance novels. That's why we should never judge people by appearance alone.
  • I know I'm gonna get rated down for this but I prefer reading books written by guys. Males and Females definitely write in different ways. Hang on let me rephrase that, there is a more masculine way of writing and a more feminine way of writing (for example: Eoin Colfer and C.S Lewis both write like women). Less happens over more words in a masculine book (I don't know how this works because both masculine and feminine books descibe things in the same detail) but I need these extra words because I read fast. It helps to get a picture in my head of what's going on. The stereotyping I've done! Oh the horror!
  • I guess have do have a pre-conceived notion, but it's been conceived by reading some books authored by women. As an example, having read Raymond Feist for some time, I could tell when the books he'd done were co-authored by his wife. Not because they lacked the quality of before (they were still very good), but they had more emotion and character development. Because the change was perceptable, I felt they dragged on a bit longer in places I would have prefered the story had moved on.
  • Beside the educational books , I read books only by Nancy Friday.. she is a female.. presumption, well what can I say for books by Nancy Friday.... they are hot sexy and so presumption would be nothing else than the eroticism attached.... seriously in female author I presume them to be more romantic and having a human angle more in every type of book they write.....
  • any myth about women writers has to be totally wrong. Mary Shelly ring a bell? she wrote Frankenstein. and Ann Rice wrote the Vampire Chronicles. I read lots of Sci-Fi and they have some very good writers. I don't have any preconceived notions about women writers. i think it depends on your genre that you read.
  • I read alot of fantasy, so that made me naturally go towards male authors initially, until I found the great writing of Robin Hobbs and J.V Jones, who write just as well as male fantasy authors, so I am pretty split now.
  • I usually prefer male authors. Margaret Atwood is an exception. I've read several of her books and admire her breadth and style. +5
  • It does not matter. No I don't have any ignorant pre conceptions about the gender of authors lol.
