Fundamentalism is a religious movement or point of view characterized by a return to fundamental principles, by rigid adherence to those principles, and by intolerance of other views. This is the same trap that the Pharisees of Jesus' time had fallen into. WWJD? What would Jesus do? Jesus did not take the Jewish Scriptures (Old Testament) literally like the small minority of Pharisees did. In fact, Jesus chided the Pharisees over this too literal interpretation.
