  • It's up to the manager how many innings are pitched by any pitcher.
  • There are no rules dealing with pitch counts or limiting the number of innings a pitcher can pitch in MLB. Managers in the Major Leagues are smart enough not to overwork a pitcher and they also know when a pitcher needs to come out of a game. They also want to protect the team's investment. Rules for such things are only needed in youth baseball where coaches are too stupid to realize a 12 year old should not throw 100+ pitches in a game or start games on consecutive days. I've seen pitchers on youth travel ball teams throw 90+ pitches during a start on Saturday and then throw another 90 pitches in a start on Sunday. Almost 200 pitches on consecutive days - amazingly stupid on the coach's part. And coaches and parents wonder why little Johnny can no longer pitch when he's 17 years old...
