I have many thoughts on this, but no answers. I totally agree though. It seems that all you have to do is say you are a christian, and people assume that you are a good church going, religious person. If you say you are not a christian, then you are assumed to be a sad person that has not found Jesus. Better yet, if you say you don't go to church then you can't be christian. I have had more spiritual moments sitting on the beach after a dive or sitting by the lake after a good day of fishing, than I ever had in church. Watching the sun set over the water while dolphins jump, wind blowing through the trees while birds fly by. Who would not see beauty and creation in that? Maybe if I watched it on a video in church it would be acceptable.

Here is the thing. People who say that, don't understand what it is to be a Christian. The Apostle Paul, who lived a far more righteous life than any of us will, said he was the "chief" of sinners. Now if he was chief, what does that make me? The truth is as Romans says "All have sinned and come short of the glory of God." ALL that includes everyone, no Christian should believe he is superior to anyone else. God isn't pleased with any of our lives, because he doesn't like our sins. Actually, to be a born again Christian you must accept the fact that you are a sinner and that you are unworthy to be in the presence of God. Nothing we can do is good enough to please God. It is by the blood of Christ alone we are made righteous in the eyes of God. Once a person is in Christ, God no longer sees the sin, He sees Christ, though that person will still sin. If Christians really understood what it means to be a sinner, they wouldn't say such things.

Well, I'm a Christian and there are no morally superior Christians, though there does seem to be a standard saying otherwise. It's crap.

Yeah I've heard those silly sayings and more, then I think how this "nice christian boy" could be beating his meat in the bathroom of his grandma's house while looking at a gay porn magazine....LOL

Its the Christians that actually believe that they are superior than other people that are hypocrites. I am a Christian, and I have no say of what other people think I am. If they think I am superior or the scum of the earth, hey, its their opinion... But Christians arent any better than other people. I know that. You know that. ~+~

'He's a nice Christian boy' or 'I'm a Christian, so I don't usually say stuff like this, but'. I believe what they're trying to say is that 'the boy' was raised in a household that taught religious values. (Do unto others as you'd have done to you.) And I suppose, if they say he's a 'nice' Christian boy, they're assuming that he's embraced these ideas. To say "I'm a Christian",...means that you're a follower and imitator of Christ. (At least that's what it's supposed to mean). "I'm a Christian, so I don't usually say stuff like this, but,...", is a way of admitting that what they're about to say is something that Jesus Christ would not. If all purported Christians behaved like Christ, the world would be a very different place.

Some may think they are a better person because they consider themselves a christian but the truth is God loves us all, he doesn't love the pastor anymore than a homeless person down on the street corner. It is what it is, there are all kinds of people in this world that are going to say things like that and feel certain ways, we can't change that. Just remember the truth is nobody is better than anyone else in the eyes of God.

See http://www.answerbag.com/a_view/4415924. I don't think, that as Christians, our message ought to be moral superiority, but grace. So, I agree with you.

I'm not Christian, and I dont take offense to that. I think it just implies that they believe Christians are good people. I dont think it implies anything else or that they are "better" than others. I think there are plenty of good and bad people who call themselves Christian. And there are non-christians who are good and bad too. People are just people i think.
