  • My husband gets a full months salary as a bonus, but my work doesnt even give anyone a christmas card, so i think getting anything at all would be a bonus to me!
  • i honestly have no idea..but my bro got 750 bucks .must be nice..even thou their not payn him worth of crap.lol
  • To not expect a bonus. Not all companies hand out extras just because it is a holiday. Bonuses can vary from something as simple as a turkey to hundred dollar gift cards. It all depends on what you do for work, and what your companies views on holidays are. My hoilday bonus consist of 70 hour work weeks :/
  • Not all employers give bonuses, it depends on their generosity, because by law they don't have to do anything of the sort. As well, small companies may not be able to afford bonuses Those that do give them out, well, it depends a lot on how much you make. maybe 5-10% of your salary is reasonable, but the more money you make the mroe you're liekly to receive
  • A typical Holiday bonus may range from $0 to $1000, but that depends on the company's policies. where as a performance bonus is communicated to you in advance, and has specific targets set early in the year (i.e. 5%, 10%, etc.).
  • I'm with Princessemmabell here. A bonus should never be expected, although I am constantly amazed to hear people complain about the type or size of a bonus. Isn't it funny though, employers who do not provide bonuses at all, almost never get complaints. lol.
  • Wow, what an interesting question! I work for a small company as the accounts manager and this was an issue that came up this holiday. We had a hard time deciding what to do for bonuses this year, we have 3 new employees that had been there for less than 6 months, the other 3 had been there for over 2 years. However 1 always calls in sick, never works extra(like if there is more work or someone else calls in sick) and works less than 30 hrs a week. The other 2 are great and worth whatever we could afford to give. To make it fair the owner fo the company gave everyone the same amount, $200.00! May not be alot to some but the kicker is not ONE employee said thank you, not one! So i guess the answer really depends on the circumstances. I know he has no intentions to give a bonus next year.
  • If I received a slap in the belly with a wet fish I'd consider myself lucky.
  • Why would anyone expect a holiday bonus when they are paid as usual during their holidays anyway? (I'm being deliberately disingenuous here since no-one has thought yet to highlight the different practices in different countries: all the answers seem to be about American practices) In Europe, 20 days paid holiday per year is a legal minimum. In many European countries the law provides for many more – the record, I think, is in Italy or France at somewhere around 35 or 38. Please do bear in mind that many many more people live outside the USA than live inside it, and most of them quite like it that way!
