If (like me) you're just slightly overweight, wear shirts with so-called "invisible" vertical lines. Namely button-up shirts. Nobody ever pays attention to the vertical line that is the buttons, but a vertical line makes you look taller. If you look taller, it mitigates the belly fat. I also like a satin stripe shirt on nice occaisions. The vertical stripes are a bit more obvious, but they're subdued, so it amplifies the lengthening effect of the vertical line without drawing attention to it.
