Answer to:
Why is all pop music today manufactured rubbish? the kids of the future need to listen to real music!!
I believe music started to die the day MTV came on. The image is what is more important today. Now there is also the availibility of downloading one song at a time, which potentially makes every song a throw-away single. Some bands still make conceptual, deep albums, but that is going away little by little, because the industry wants to squeeze as much out of an artist they can, then dump...

Do you respect a single Mother equally if you are one, or if you aren't one but know one?
I respect mothers that are doing there best by their kids. Period. I am in awe of some of the single mothers I know. I know one in particular who has 2 children, goes to school, gets awesome grades and has a full time job. I jokingly asked her what she does in her spare time. She doesn't know what "spare time" means anymore. She is a dynamo, and I have the utmost respect...

Do kids have too little time to play these days?
I think kids have too little time to do anything anymore. There are so many structured things for kids to get involved in, plus the heavy course work given to them (!) in school that they never have time to become bored, and therefore resourceful. I remember idle days as a child, where I could do really whatever I wanted, once school got out. It doesn't seem to be that way anymore. It...

Is true love and appreciation 'tested' when our parents become old & restricted & it becomes our turn to care for them >>> Or do we just close all doors & send them to a home to let others take the responsibility? Opinions please? (no offense intended)
I believe I would explore every option to keep them in either their own home or mine. I am uncomfortable with nursing homes, from past experiences with other relatives. I don't know if I could care for my father's hygenic needs, he is 6'4 and weighs 325 pounds. I would want part time in home care to take care of that.
I plan to take care of them both, and as a matter of...

What do you think when you hear adults or parents say, teenagers don't know what love is.
I don't know if that is true. Teenagers can only experience the depth of love that they know. They have not had the time to experience the deep kind of love that an adult, who must make serious and sometimes life-altering decisions based on that love, and can see that love get deeper still.

Some people 'Sleep train' thier infants by letting thier babies "Cry it Out" as early as 6 months old. What do you think about not responding to the cries of an infant?
We used a technique called "pick up, put down" with our son. We weren't comfortable with him crying it out. He had acid reflux in his early months and screamed in pain constantly, so we couldn't possibly handle him crying like that again, especially if we were causing it. We also wanted him to learn to settle himself and go to sleep. The technique involved picking him up...

Why is the category 'evolution' listed as sub-category under 'humans'? Why is the misconception that humans are somehow the 'kings of life' so present? Don't animals, plants, fungi and bacteria have the same right to have this category?
Because humans made the list and humans made the theory of evolution. Humans put themselves on top of the food chain because they are the ones classifying, studying, and learning about it.
When fungi make a list, you bet your behind they will be at the top.

If you don't already, try whole milk on cereal, whole fat cheeses, dried fruits and potatoes. They are the only healthy choices I can think of. You could ask your doc for some other nutritious, bulking foods.

I have seen crib "bumpers" that are made of mesh. I am going to use one of these with my "pending" baby. They act more as a net around the crib, keeping arms and legs in, but pose no suffocation hazzard. Try Googling "mesh baby bumper" or check Babies R Us.

I find a swat an the buttocks acceptable, because the buttocks are the most cusioned area on the body, and stings, but fades quickly. With only the hand, never an implement. The face, on the other hand, I find abusive and humiliating. It hurts, badly. I also think it tends to be an immediate, angry reaction, therefore, easier to lose control with.

I was told it could by many different sources when I was pregnant, but I can't remember if my doctor said it. A famous newlywed spouse is quoted as saying, "She's officially off the market. No one else gets her. And now she'll cook and clean for me." Women: Offended or not?
I would think he was joking. No. I don't get offended. If my spouse seriously expected that type of "servant" then he can pay one. It would've been cheaper than marrying me!

Are there any benefits to eating iceberg lettuce, seeing as how it has little nutritional value, and is mostly water?
I once read that if you were starving in a field of iceberg lettuce, that you will starve to death faster eating it, because it burns so many calories to break it down. I don't know how true that is, but if it is true, I suppose calorie burning would be a benefit. (As long as you weren't starving!)

Do you think the current high fuel prices will cause local/state governments to invest more in public transportation (e.g. longer bus operation hours) and ease the use of human powered vehicles (e.g. more bike lanes, more bike racks)?
I don't think so. I think they are just waiting it out and hoping gas prices go down. It is costly to put in bike lanes. My area doesn't even have sidewalks. They are too cheap to put them in, and are not forward thinking enough to see past fuel. I live in suburbia, so there are no bus routes, no sidewalks, no bike trails. My area is completely reliant on cars, and the...

Have you ever heard the one where Mc Donalds used to put worms in their hamburgers?
It comes from their use of sodium erythorbate, which was thougtht to contain earthworms. It is actually used in tandem with nitrate as a preservative, and is made from sugars such as beet or cane.
However, I personally believe McDonald's burgers taste nothing like beef, so, I don't think it is hard to believe a worm may taste that bad!

How should children address adults? Mr/Miss/Mrs + last name (Miss Smith) or Mr./Miss/Mrs + first name (Miss Julie) - or just first name? What is proper protocol these days?
I teach my son to address elders as Mr. or Ms. then their last name. That is how I was raised. Then, after that, if the adult says " You can call me ..." then that is fine. I want him to learn the respectful way first, then let them determine what they want to be called. If they don't correct him, the Mr or Ms stays.
Respect goes a long way on a first impression. I...

WHAT CAN I GIVE MA 7 MONTH OLD BABY SHES BEEN COUGHING AND SNEEZING ALOT FOR A WEEK ALREADY?
We would go in the bathroom, close the door, and run the shower on hot to fill the room with steam. This will gently moisten the nasal passages for the baby and make coughing easier, and more productive. I would call the doc if you haven't already. The relief from the steam is temporary, but helpful. You may have to repeat it until the little one gets through it. Good luck to you.

Why is the media that was endlessly fixated on Bill Clinton's infidelities basically ignoring that John McCain dumped his first wife for a 15-years-younger beer fortune heiress?
My guess is because Bill Clinton's whole thing was so blown up, people now realize how pointless it is to go on and on about such things, and are wisely ignoring certain aspects of a candidates private life.

Why do some mothers/parents opt for a home birth rather at a hospital?
For some women, it feels natural to them. Up until not too long ago, having children at home was commonplace. There are plenty of midwives out there who have a lot of experience. They are easy to find and really get the mother psyched about being a mother naturally. I think they are a great option. There is a certain freedom of birthing at home, in one's own space, with full attention...

I would never, ever speak to her again. I wouldn't get that upset about it, either. You did nothing wrong. I don't believe she was ever your friend, and she sounds like a bit of a head case to me. My relationship with my boyfriend ended 2 months ago.I have not heard from him, we were together 3 yrs. why doesn't he call, or email..I tried to call him once and he hung up on me.Why is it so easy for him to walk away? And I stil miss him..
It may not be as easy for him as you think. He may need a clean break. He could possibly be hurting, but know that it is over, and need time to collect himself. I for one, found it too painful to stay friends with the person, (there were no children involved...) because we would just get right back into the same old routine and never truly said goodbye until we said goodbye for good.

What behaviour do you NOT tolerate from your kids? What is a punishable offense?
I cannot tolerate running off. I discipline my nearly three-year-old son when he does something dangerous. He recently ran away from me and was high-tailing it to the road (we live on a busy street.) I RAN after him and snatched him out of the ditch before he could get to the road. I had to go in the house and calm down some before the punishment. It scared me so badly because it could...

Why do we feel we need to protect our parents - even from a young age?
I think because they are the people who love us and protect us the most, and the thought of anyone hurting someone that important to us touches a primal, defensive anger. It did (and does) for me, anyway.

do you worry about the bills and the financial problems to raise one or not?
My husband and I were thrilled beyond imagination when our son was born. We have made so many financial sacrifices to have me stay home with the baby, that I cannot count them all.
They are worth it. As far as bills go, we just take it one day at a time, and live a lean lifestyle. I will make money again, but bills are bills. Enjoy your child in whatever way you can, as much as you can.

If the mother is out of the picture, you could try to talk to the 12 y/o yourself. Tell him you are thinking of calling the police on him. I would then involve the father in the discussion, and tell him you are thinking of contacting the police if this behavior does not stop. What do you think of a stay at home mom, making her husband or boyfriend (who has been working all day),as soon as he walk in the door at home, she makes him help her take care of the kids?
Stay at home moms work 24/7. There are rest periods occasionally, which for me are filled with housework. My SO and I have a rule. He gives me a 30 minute break when he gets home, then we split the duties for the rest of the evening. It seems to work for us. Then we are both doing our share. We also try to be honest about what our day was really like. If I had a rough day, he does more....

I say go to work. If they are making you lose your mind, you need to do what is right for you, too. The children will be better off with a happy, content mom than a frazzled, miserable one...

Wesley Autry. He is the guy that jumped on another man who had fallen onto the subway tracks having a seizure and held the guy down while the train went OVER THEM BOTH. When I heard about that, I cried. He was so humble about it. He said "I don't feel like I did anything spectacular; I just saw someone who needed help." What a great guy. Would you have a problem with dating a man or woman who already had children if you didn't have any and wanted your own?
When I was dating, I would halt everything if the guy told me he had kids. I dated guy with kids for a while, and we agreed we would see how the relationship went before I met his children, and then he just dumped them on me (3!) one night. I was VERY upset with him. What does it mean ( to you) to be an American. We all seem to be so caught up in pointing fingers at each other, that we've lost sight of the bigger picture.
To me, it means that I have a great country, where I am free to try my best to make a living, with limited government involvement. In this country, you get what you put in. American citizens are their own best motivators, because the sky is the limit in this country. I feel like I live in the best human experiment ever attempted.

I believe I would feel lost, but try to be strong and force myself to talk about him to my son, so he could really know what his dad was like.
I believe I would heavily lean on family and friends. I could not be alone through it. I know I would need help. Perhaps from my grandmother. She has been through it.

No, we don't. Thankfully, all we have to do with our son is tell him to take one bite to try it, and if he likes it he will eat it. We lucked out with him. If this wasn't the case, I believe I would be the sneaky chef! My mother did it with me!

I would not. The army will find him, and the army will either make his life hell, or put a permanent spot on his record with "dishonorable discharge." I had a friend who bailed, and it has kept him from getting many jobs. Poor guy lost his dad and re-enlisted on a whim. He had 4 years overseas, (in Korea) and he still got a dishonorable discharge.

A subtle difference, but I believe their is one.
If said religious literature is deliberately setting out to eliminate/kill/harm a group of a different faith, then there is no difference. However, most religious lit. that I see is trying to convert people from one religion to another for compassionate reasons. I think it would be great. . . .
I think so. I think people would be more peaceful. I would want it to end there, though. Marijuana is the only drug I would want legalized, and I would like to see it treated like alcohol: Tax it, and set up laws regarding when one may or may not use it.
I know many people who have died as a result of using alcohol, I know no one who has died from using marijuana.

I think if someone has something they do wrong, and are unaware of it, that is a flaw. If they know of a flaw and do nothing to fix it, that is a fault. As far as premeditated abuse, I say absolutely. Chances are, if it happens again, it will keep going and going. The only problem they seem to have with it is whether or not you will put up with it.

I am on the fence about this. I don't think there were proper resources to do anything. I don't even think they could escape. I have read about the Gestapo, and Germany killed many of it's own citizens who were not considered "useful." I think there was overwhelming bigotry and fear.
God must judge the masses.

What were the differences betweeen holocaust work camps and death camps?
Weren't they one and the same? Over Auschwitz there was a banner that read "Arbeit Macht Frei”, or “work makes (one) free." The camp was subdivided into three parts. Auschwitz 1, Auschwitz-Birkenau (the extermination part) and many sattelite camps that were associated with many German companies and served as work camps. The largest being Auschwitz-Monowitz.

If Jesus and God are the same, who was in heaven when Jesus was on the Earth?
I don't know why someone negged your question. It seems valid to me. I believe in the Holy Trinity: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. God is the three in one. We can't understand it, because we are not perfect. I must ask him one day to explain it to me. For now, his book says it, I believe it. Jesus talked to God when on the cross, "Oh Father, my...
Answer to:
Do you have a good relationship with your parents?
Yes. My parents were strict yet loving when I was a child. At the time, they told me their major goal was for my brother and I to be happy people, and to consider them our friends. They are, and that seems so profound to me now as a parent myself. I feel the same way and have more respect for them. They are also two of my best friends.
Answer to:
Do you have a good relationship with your grandparents?
Yes and no. My fathers side were very distant people. They rarely were around, and when they were, they could have cared less about really knowing me or my brother. They did love us, they just had a different idea of what a relationship should be. My grandfather on that side is now gone, and while I love him and feel sorry that he is gone, I honestly don't know how much I miss him...

In YOUR OWN OPINION, IF you believe in "god", what is your definition of "god"? Do you think he's an old wise man who meddles with our lives? Do you think "he" is more like "the force"? Please explain how YOU view "god".
I have many ideas about God. I believe he is the reason our hearts beat, a child grows, a plant grows, the Earth spins, the sun shines, the reason an electron spins; and at the same time, God is like a human, because he made us in his image. Another thing the Bible tells us: Only one man in the Bible looked at God and lived. I think it was Jacob. God even shielded him from all of his glory...

Grilled chicken Caesar salad. I know that sounds stupid, but it is truly my favorite food in the world. I use creamy Caesar dressing, and freshly grilled chicken, still warm. Whats the worst thing you ever did to your brother or sister as a child?
(talking your under 18 in this confession)
At around 11, my brother who was 14, decided to start chewing smokeless tobacco. I found it disgusting, but he was loving it. Being against the code of honor to tattle on him, I replaced his chew with wetted tea that I removed form Lipton tea bags. He put a big dip in and spit all over the place. I learned on that day that I could run faster in fear than my brother could in anger.

I recently read online about a man that nursed a baby fox he found to keep it alive, do you think that it is wrong for men that can nurse to do this?
I saw on the internet, (so I am skeptical) that a man can meditate and will his body to produce milk and nurse a child. That to me is odd, only because that has always been a woman's job, but men have breast tissue...
Anyway, that is awesome that he could do this. How resourceful. No canned milk for his baby fox!

Be careful, that is a slippery slope and can change and/or cheapen any type of real experience you may have and make it feel mundane. Think about it, what is so great about anything that you have seen a million times... It could still be good, but not great.

What was you life like when as a child you had religion forced down your gagging throat?
I would get angry that I had to go. Then I would sulk and eventually get in trouble for the sulking. I vowed when I became an adult that I would really delve into all religions to find the one that is right for me.

I would have to say men. I think they are less likely to discuss their feelings than women, therefore unable to hurt eachother on such a deep level over a difference of opinion.

Answer to:
Do women often think men are inconsiderate of their feelings----why?
I believe a lot of men are able to focus on the "right now" and not think hard on what the woman is feeling. I think it is a hardwiring difference, and one that makes some men and women great for eachother. Men seem to drive ahead in things, while women think more. Historically, this has accomplished much. Also, this same quality has probably historically pissed off many wives...

I have already planted the seeds for healthy living in him through health diet and routine exercise/getting off your duff living. Hopefully, if he does slip, he will come back to that. He can sneak around like everyone else. If I can't stop him, I will surely make it inconvenient...

Do you allow your child to swear?
Absolutely not. My son may not swear at all, especially when trying to prove a point. I mean, if he hurts himself and it slips out, then fine. When I was coming up, my parents taught me that to swear when trying to make a point made you look small and not too bright by resorting to shock-value to color your sentences, as opposed to strong words and convictions alone to hold your point.

Do relatives inundate your kids with gifts for special occasions? Do you set a limit for how many gifts/how expensive they can be?
Yes, they do and I set limits. My son had more toys than we have room for. Honestly, I ask others not to get him expensive/brand new toys. They shop for him at yard sales and internet sights, and that means they can afford twice as much, and would like to give him twice as much.
I really want my son to grow up with the experience of wanting, planning and dreaming for something. If he has...

Why has pink become associated with girls and blue with boys?
I knew I was having a boy, and I painted his room yellow with a nautical theme, the room was already painted as soon as I found out I was pregnant, and would have been the same with a girl. (My daughter can enjoy sailing!)
However, with clothing, for some reason, I had to have VERY boyish clothes. All of the yellow clothes given to me earlier in the pregnancy were given to a friend who had...

Because half of all homeless people are veterans, don't you think that any wartime veteran should be able to live in the USA free from paying realestate taxes for life ? I think they earned that right.
I am on the fence about this. I like the premise, but I sincerely doubt the reason they are homeless is because they are vets. I think more along the lines that they are homeless because of post-traumatic stress disorder and/or substance problems. I would in turn rather see more programs for vets to deal with these and any other war-related issues, (including marital counseling, one-on-one...

I had a relationship with a man 26 yrs my senior, alot of people thought it was sick. what is the age gap between you and your partner?
He is 7 years my senior. I don't really think it is anyone else's business when two people are in a relationship. Seven years is not much now, but when we got together it was to others, but not to us. We have been together for 11 years now, so it really didn't matter, and others have seen that.
At one point, I had a relationship with a man 19 years my senior. It was great....

Practicing. As in, they practice what they preach. I have never known a "half way" Mormon. They seem to have certain codes and practices and stick with them. I don't know how true that is, but from the media I have seen, they do what they say. Some organized religions say one thing and do another. I don't neccessarily know all of the facets of Mormonism, nor do I agree...

Why is it that some people vigorously defend the life of an embryo but have no problem sending our kids to a senseless war where some of them will surely die? Are embryos more valuable? Why are our kids so expendable?
I understand your angle, but please do not confuse pro lifers with war mongers. One is a peaceful plea, one is not. The only thing the two topics have in common is that people end up dead. I know some high ranking government officials give lip service to both sides, and if you look at their records, they know nothing about either one.

What do you think of someone who "supports the troops" when they are on the battlefield dying, but won't support legislation to provide them with a good education when they return because it would "discourage re-enlistment"?
That would be disgusting. Our soldiers are risking and giving their lives and deserve more than just an education. I do not believe it would discourage reenlistment. I think knowing your country gives a damn about you when you serve and when you are done would encourage enlistment. These soldiers are choosing to go in the first place, and it is for something greater than their not so grand...
