In California, if you are stopped at a red light, with no way to move to the side, and an emergency vehicle comes up behind you with lights and siren on, is it legal to run the red light to get out of the emergency vehicle's way?

Yes you can. If you are at a red light and a emergency vehicle pulls up behind you, the emergency has the right of way and you must yeild to the vehicle. Look out for cross traffic and make sure they are stopped, pull across the intersection and yeild to the far right and stop. Not doing this can be a Failure to Yeild/impeading ticket as well.

    From a emergency vehicle driver.

    • And besides, if you have stopped and then proceeded in order to accommodate the emerg vehicle, it's not technically running the light, is it? You had stopped at the intersection..
