    • I do like Elton John's cover of Pinball Wizard, and possibly, it does have a slight edge over the original. Don't get me wrong, I love the Who myself, but Elton seemed to inject more fire and energy into his version. Maybe it's that great rocking piano.

    • I agree with you 100% I think Elton did equally well with his cover of The Beatles' Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds.

    • Yes, that's an excellent cover version as well. Strange as it may sound now, I actually heard Elton's version first. Even though I knew it was a Beatles song, I remember Elton's version in the charts (in 1974) whereas the Beatles original was an LP track and never a single. Also, because of the drug references in the lyrics, the original version might not have been played on the radio at the time.

      Smokey Robinson - terrible song, wasn't much anyone could do with it.
      Ike and Tina - SACRILEGE! NOBODY did that song better than Creedence.
