Depending on where the spot is - high traffic path or not, the size and color of your carpet, you might be able to cover it up by using a Sharpie permanent marker.

I've used a Sharpie to make a bleach spot less obvious on jeans, black pants, black suede boots, red shirt sleeve, even to cover up a scratches on high heel shoes. Sometimes it fades when the clothes are washed, but I just color it back again. It's better than not wearing the clothes ever again!

Remember using the Sharpie trick is permanent, so be sure the color is not too dark before you do it, or it will be worse! You could use a water based marker too, which will give you more color choices, but you might have to reapply it occasionally as it fades away over time.

If using a color marker won't work for you, maybe you can move your furniture around to cover the spot, If that's not a go, then your only other choice is to replace your carpet.

I hope this helps you! Good Luck!

    • There are more choices then just one.
I have used permanent markers on small spots and find that markers are a bright brilliant color and carpets are mostly mat finishes or whats called de-lustered colors. The carpet dye sticks are the best thing I've found for bleach and red stains on carpets.
If you patch it there is a little known trick that even most carpet cleaners and repair men don't know. Like Kinkstar says "Depending on where the spot is - high traffic path" If the spot or stain is in a worn area than the patch may look odd because of the differents between the never walked on patch from extra carpet or the closet and the worn high traffic area stained carpet.
So what I do is when patching I steam the patch. Let me explain. carpet is seamed together by using a seaming tape that is hot melt glue on a tape, typically the iron that melts the hot melt tape goes under the carpet while the seam is being made but on a small patch there is no room for the iron to go under the carpet, so I cut the stain out using a very very sharp razor blade being careful to only cut between the fibers and not the carpet pile then I use the stained piece as an approximate pattern for the new patch from an extra piece or from a closet.( error to cut it to big not too small) using scissors I trim it to fit just right in the hole where I removed the stain, when it fits snug i cut 4 pieses of the hot melt carpet tape( I guess using some cloth and a hot melt glue gun might work as well as long as it is steamed afterwords) and slide them in the hole on all 4 sides as the hole should be square. the tape should be places in the middle so that the middle of the tape width is along the edge of the cut carpet hole edge. then place the patch piece in the hole , take 4 wet paper towels and cove each area along the edges of where the seams will be then take a very hot iron,( with the paper towels you can use your home iron) and press on to the paper towels centering the iron with the seam and press down and hold for 60 sec. then move to each area of the patch and repeat. this will carry the steam down to the hot melt glue tape (or glue gun glue on cloth) sealing the seam and at the same time will reverse the heat set nylon twist of the carpet yarn making the seam edges fit better and making the carpet between the old and the new to match better so that the new carpet from the closet will look so much more like the worn carpet in the traffic area.
I have done this houndreds of times and it works great although I still prefer using the carpet dye sticks on bleach spots and stain and the patches on burn spots and holes that pets have made. Check out the carpet dye stick video on you tube.
