  • because that's what the media and fashion plays out...pick up a super popular fashion magazine and try to find one ad or picture that supports those who are slightly larger than average....girls are learning from young ages that it's better to be skinnier, and that the skinnier you are, the more attractive you are
  • Skinny women are in fact more attractive and more healthy. Most American women are overweight to some degree and “the prevalence of obesity in England had tripled over the last 20 years” so there is a lot of pressure to see fatties in a false light. This is very dangerous as it encourages exactly the wrong eating, exercise, and lifestyle habits.
  • well there is skinny and then there is anerexic. Anerexic does nothing for me. When they look like starving greyhounds I have to draw the line. Skinny is fine with me but I musch prefer a more athletic build. Not muscular. Please dont confuse the two. I like women that are toned. Not ripped.
  • Skinny to me is protruding bones or cheeks, that's not attractive. I think lean with well proportioned body is way more attractive. Skin and bones, I don['t think so.
  • Because skinny girls get more looks and more attention.
  • Because skinny - or thin - is more attractive than overweight. I work with a bunch of guys - they check out every woman that comes in - and they comment on them - they prefer looking at the thin ones.
  • Because one thing that history has taught us is that men like a tiny waist.
  • Because of those damn teen magazines.
  • Because women don't know how close to stand to the mirror. Yes, men are visual, but do you have any idea at what distance we see you? My first sight is about at *70* yards. By the time you are at 25 yards, I have already done my double and triple takes, so unless we're in an auditorium or the mall she isn't even indoors yet. BTW, I'm near-sighted. Put the full length mirror up on one end of the house, go all the way to the other end, and *then* look. If you look good, then you look good.
  • i like a girl with a bit of shape and a bit of meat on her bones
  • Thin girls are OK but skinny I think anorexia and that is sick.
  • 'Have no idea!!!!! *click on photo
  • why do other girls think anything not fat is unhealthy? I have experienced life with my BMI ranging from 17 to 30 and while 23 was ideal, I felt a hell of a lot better at 17 than 30 or even 27. men are dencer and typicaly have higher BMI, so a 15 would likely be healthier than a 28 if the girl had a comparable frame to me.
  • Many girls think they have to look like the women they see in magazines and on television to get attention and be beautiful.
  • The freaks in media. Just look at what they did to Britney Spears. After she had her kids, of course her body turned into that of a real woman. But did you HEAR the media critizing her about being "fat" and how "disgusting she looked"? (When she was shooting her "Gimme More" video.) Seriously??? I would love to look now like she did then. I don't particularly like Britney Spears, but thank you media. You're just what our kids need. You're fat if you're bigger than a size 2. :-( Ridiculous. Not.
  • The world around them makes them always feel like they arn't good enough.
  • Because most guys still think that girls have to be skinny, to be attractive. And other girls can be b**ches.
  • Men makes them feel they always inadequate aome how- who makes fashion? Who creates media? Who is in the cosmetic business? Who invented the bra? Who made high heels? women or men?
  • dont think so...but they shudnlt be too fat...hehe
  • Do most girls really think that? I think most girls are very conscious of the fact that most men -- at least in the US -- attach rather more importance to a girls breasts than to other aspects of her appearance. If she can be slim elsewhere, good and well, but skinny girls with decent breasts are thin on the ground.
  • The media doctors pictures of celebrities so much that they could make the michelin man look skinny. The idols are unrealistically skinny.. and many girls try to emulate in real what s pure fantasy Marilyn Monroe would likely be dismissed as a fat pig these days
  • Because far too many are far too gullible to the media's brain washing that says thin is in ... but then they misinterpret thin to mean skinny ...
  • B/c they think that guys like only skinny girls and it's all the bad influence on/in the media
  • The media, glossy mags etc put women under pressure to stay young, skinny and beautiful.. the world is farrr too a superficial one. I'm not saying this because im overweight, im actually very slender myself and I'm fed up with trying to live up to this facade of fakes!grrrrrrrr
  • I blame the media.
  • because being overweight isnt something men find attractive
  • Because obviously they haven't heard of: "More Bounce To The Ounce"
  • I don't blame the media. I blame kids that are mean. When you hear someone get made fun of for something what do you think? Thank God I'm not that. Kids target other overweight kids because they are easy targets, so even if you aren't overweight you know you don't want to be because you have this preconceived notion that it's bad to be. From there it goes into individual self esteem. I blame intolerance, not an intangible "media". No news station or magazine says, if you're fat you suck. No, magazines write about what they think people want to hear or see. Editors and producers were around that same mean kid that made fun of that same overweight kid, so they know their audience will want to learn how to be skinny because they won't want to be made fun of either. And from there, popularity takes over and creates more mean kids.
  • Did you ever know anyone with a fat cat or dog? Even fat animals are unattractive.
  • While the media does have some blame, being on the skinny and/or slender side gets you more looks than being on the opposite end, though curves can certainly be a big turn on. Having a little extra love on you is a hit and miss thing in the eye of the public.
  • BECAUSE THE T.V. SAID SO
  • Because thin is attractive.
  • because most of the time clothes are made to fit thinner women, and when an over weight girl goes to try something on at normal deparment store it looks odd and misshapen.. This is only one of the reasons, I dont think the majority of women want to be skinny, but lean. Most women like to look at themselves naked and if you have some flabby areas it usually doesnt look good. Not all women were made to be lean though, but it is by far healthier!1
  • That is what the media portrays. I personally like a little meat on my bones, and I eat whatever I want whenever I want, but I do eat in moderation. I will not deprive myself of what makes me happy just because the media says it looks good or because "thats what men like" I love myself the way I am. I am a size 7 in jeans with no intention whatsoever to be a size 0. NO WAY JOSE! I like pizza, pasta and seafood way too much. Ok long answer.
  • Oh boy. Well, here goes... because they do?
  • That would be the media's fault.
  • They get brainwashed from the media and the fact that fashion models are only choosen because they are thin and skinny dosent help
  • cuz all the cute clothes come in smaller sizes
  • I think it is silly. What man ever turned down a nice pair of boobies and a butt to grab on to?
  • no, they need to be attracitve to be attractive. Skinnies can be ugly too.
  • Because that is the image put out by everyone! Porn, fashion, men themselves! Have you ever seen a guy checking out a fat chick? I have some weight on me, but I don't think I am fat. In fact, it took me most of teenage years to come to terms with who I am. Doesn't stop my boyfriend's comments though!
  • media. end of.
  • I'm not fat... but I feel fat because of my boob size (J Cup) Like I said I'm not fat, but I'm not skinny, but I'm not a diet becuase I wonna be smaller becuase I wonna look like the girl I think are really prety... I know its silly but I just don't feel good bout myself.
  • The media. I'm constantly constantly seeing pictures of gorgeous, tiny women. Magazines, TV. You know. My friends, I have so many properly stick thin friends. I don't think I'm fat. But I'm never going to be that skinny, because I've got hips and I've got a chest. But it doesn't stop me thinking it might be nice to be straight up and down, sometimes.
  • I think that it is because of the media, just look at how Tyra Banks gets slaughtered by the media because she has put some weight on.
  • I'm 19 years old. around 90-95lbs. I don't mind being skinny, but I don't think it makes me or anyone else look that attractive. Some girls don't listen to everything they read or hear and are just lucky to have a nice body. The media can only be an awful thing if you listen to it.
  • this happenened yesterday: I was shopping with my b/f. he was telling mehow cute every girl is, and how big I am (im a size 5/6) So, I told him there are plenty of men who find my body attractive. He said "keep thinkin that if it makes you feel better" Then he actually went on to ask who would ever find my body attractive??? THATS WHY WE THINK THAT SHIT!!!
  • Because they are being brainwashed by the Madison Ave crowd. Truth of the matter, most men find healthy women attractive and many of the skinny models look freakish to me. They don't look heathy and they don't look happy. Some actually look mad. I later came to find out that they are hungry.
  • When the ideal woman was considered to be overweight, men were "attracted" to those kind of women. The explanation we are given is that it was a sign of wealth to carry around extra weight. As science started to claim that exercise and eating in certain way was "healthy", and various diseases and so forth came under control, the picture of the ideal woman changed and was then said to be skinnier, so men became attracted to those kind of women instead. I think it is just the scientific picture of health that has influenced that. Personally I think you can still see some of that earlier bias present in the current skinny is beautiful theory. In general poor people cannot afford gym memberships and generally have poorer diets, so some of what was considered "beautiful", i.e. access to resources, still remains in our current picture as well. That's my theory about it anyway. Personally, I prefer a woman with a little meat on her bones....whatever the ideal picture of the female is that is currently being put forth in our society. I could be wrong about this, I'm not an expert, but it makes far more sense to me than other theories I have heard....
  • They will NOT listen to men. They listen to their friends. Most of us guys like softness over skinny. Buttocks worth grabbing, bosoms worth snuggling with, and so forth. Fat? No. Skinny? Noer.
  • Because you get girls who regularly read magazines, they believe what they see. The media is distorting the our view of the perfect body.weight etc. I dont regularly read magazines and so the media doesnt affect me, when i see modles and celebrities, i dont view them as role modles, i cringe at the pain they must be going through to look like that...and its not attractive. Ive been on steriods since 2004 and ive obviously put on some weight, they also increase your apetite and i do love my food. It took me a while to come to terms with it, but now when i look back at old pictures, i was too skinny, i looked ill. I went to a small school and since starting college, i realised that my weight was perfect, not fat, not thin, im in proportion. Sorry...i havnt really answered the question i dont think. I got carried away with what i was saying, but i may aswell post it anyway!
  • i think besides all of the other answers on here, "smaller" women are more admired by men because it means the guy can more physically "protect" them, as they look a little more fragile than a larger women. I think its most certainly a primal thing. A man probably wants to be the big strong defender of his woman and look after her gentle body... even if its just a subconcious thing. Women love the feeling of that security. Hmmm, i could be wrong :P
  • its the media that makes us feel like that. and people can be so mean if you don't look perfect!
  • As a male, I have never gotten that either. I actually prefer more of the athletic look than a female who is rail thin.
  • Not all girls think this. You're stereotyping. But lots do, I agree, and they do because of the media. Look at commercials, for instance. If you want a very in-depth answer, I suggest reading "The Beauty Myth" by Naomi Wolf. It's very insightful. Actually, it changed the way I see the world!
  • because society tells them to
  • Social pressure. Media doesn't help.
  • I know guys who only go 4 big girl.. and I know guys who say skinny girl sicken them so hes jst lame hun there will be other guys who like ur body
  • Because if they ar efat unless I am way drunk I will not be with them and then I will claim they raped me because I was drunk and unable to be able to agree to that situatuion legally and send her to jail.
  • That's because that's all they see on TV and in magazines. Personally a skinny woman doesn't do anything for me
  • Because we're stupid for listenind to stupid men and the stupid media. By the way, skinny sucks, no one like a skeleton, NO ONE, but FAT sucks even worse. Women who say big is beautiful are too lazy to do anything about their lardasses (present company included; I let myself get fat and if I try really hard, I can get rid of it, period). They all want to be in shape, only some want it more than others. No one can sit there and say that the rash between thier thighs from the skin rubbing toether feels good. No one likes to be marked by thier clothing. No one likes to not be able to tie their shoes because thier belly is too fat. No one like to go poop 6-8 times a day from overeating.
  • It is not a myth it is true...To put it in simple terms, guys usually want a GF they can be proud of and have other guys envy. Me personally, that's not a anti-petite chick...
  • I guess...
  • Fact from fiction, truth from diction. Even if there were no media fat would not be attractive. If you seen a rusty car, next to one with a near flawless paint job nothing you could do to it would make it more appealing to the eye. People by in large are hard wired to enjoy things that are balanced and pleasing to the eye. In short, things that have symmetry. A slender to skinny woman will have more of it than a fat woman with bulges. That is why a tiger is more appealing then a sloth or aardvark to most people. Looks aside, the simple physics say being fat is limiting because there us just things you can't get all that poundage to do. Which of those gals would you rather have in the gondola on a sight seeing trip?
  • So, I did some research at victoriassecret.com and even made a purchase. The guys had an informal vote and voted this woman as "most healthy": http://tinyurl.com/bxrc5l
