  • It is impossible to get 10 EXACTLY using patches. THe best answer would be each patch would have to be 3.33333333333...etc, inches. Or simply, 3.33 inches.
  • I would simply make it 9", with 3 1/2 inch squares, including seam allowance, and then add a border to make up the extra inch. Edit: My quilting buddy just reminded me of how you do the 3 1/3 patches. You cut out card stock paper squares, then cut the patches out of the fabric, be sure to add in a seam allowance of approx 1/4 inch on all four edges. Now, center the fabric patches in the paper squares and iron over the edges, or finger fold them. This will give you an accurate sewing line.
