My friends always say i act "emo" but how do you really act "emo"?

I am guessing them mean they feel you act very emotionally or dramatically when things happen. Perhaps you are more sensitive than they are, or maybe they just see you that way. I'm assuming that is what they mean.

"Emos" are like goths in a way. They wear black, and often try to commit suicide by slitting their wrists with plastic knives. Emo stands for emotional. They act depressed and sit in dark places.

Emo? what's the world coming to?lol. in my day it waz Rock and Punk, and pritty much still is at least we knew who we were and how to act. i.e music lifestyle. Although the word "act" is open to interpretation, all being slaves to it that is. If your not sure how to act, are you sure your Emo? what ever that is? no offence.

Ack, I get this too. It's really absurd. To act emo, you have to fulfill just about every stupid emo stereotype. "Ooh, you listen to Taking Back Sunday? You're emo. Oh, wow, you cut, dyed and layered your hair all of the sudden? You're emo. You have a myspace?! You're emo. You are looking at the ground, in a disconnnected kind of way? You're emo. I don't know who that band is. You're emo. You're belt is on sideways. You're emo. You have a band on your shirt? You're emo. You like dinosaurs, and robots? You're emo" Now, I actually do like or do a lot of those things ((downratings, I'm waiting for you)), but I'll be damned if I am emo. I most certainly am not going to have people tell me how I feel all the time and whatnot.

"emo" means emotional. So, I guess I'm emo because I'm emotional. Only thing is I dont get catagorized as "emo". According to my school I'm a "prep". Oh yes, its all so confusing. People just like to lable others, but sometimes it's not intentional or for bad reason. It seems like it's almost a habit. For a lot of people emo means someone who is always sad or who looks like they don't want to talk to anyone; someone dark & gloomy. I guess this can be emotional..except it doesnt include being happy or someone with a lot of friends. If it bothers you prove them wrong. Talk to people and smile, show them you really are emotional, not just unhappy. :]

Let me educate the ignorants of this world. "Emo" is a type of music. Somehow an avid listener began to label himself as such, looked a certain way and acted metrosexually. People would have seen this and begin to identify the appearence with others. people that say they are emo have not the slightest idea what they're talking about, neither do emo "accusors". I've heard many people say to others hey, you're so emo" and im tired of telling people they are stupid for saying this. Seriously people, get an education. American students are the least intelligent in the world but with these few facts we can begin to turn the tide.

Okay, your stereotype emo is as follows: 1. Wears pridominantly black, usually having red as their secondary color 2. Wears those thick wristbands (to hid their cutting scars) 3. Listens to metal, dark, screamo or any music where the singer threatens to kill themself or otherwise feels numb inside 4. Has traditional emo hair; long bangs specifically combed to cover one eye 5. Acts sad or doesn't speak much or complains about life a lot NOTE: If you have all the following "symtoms" except for number 5, then you are what my friends call an "emy" (ee-mee, emo+happy) You basically dress like an emo and listen to emo music but do not cut yourself or act like you are going to kill yourself.

Emo is short for emotional. But the stereotypical emo is a depressed and depressing person. They don't talk, they blend in, they have a negative outlook on life. That kind of sounds like me, but noone has ever called me emo before. I do have a pair of Chuck Taylors, almost all emos have some. I don't write all over mine though, maybe that's it.

Why should you care? You're not emo and thats all that matters... if you're acting like one without knowing it then thats cool too.

As i see it, your friends don't really know what "emo" is, so they are just using it to show the similarity between you and them. So basically they might mean that you are too emotional and act all quiet too much. Its just a joke, nothing more.

okay my english is not as good although im a native speaker... but: why do u guys give a fuck. u hate the kids that cant stand life and dont want to face the future life cuz it seems to suck and not worth living for. people who may be like me, who cant handle the stressful state that were in tend to keep it inside them. i cant take it anymore<-- that sort of thing. "i want to die..." seems like the only escape because i dont like walking down the hard way. okay wat about the fashion? nothing wrong with it. its cool, i say. so fuck it. i wear whatever i want. so why make a big fuss if emo people arent always heppy like u are. just stfu. the discussion gets annoying to me. i may be bias because i AM emo but dont get into a fuss because i am.

geez, my friends say that about me too>-< don't worry, your friends don't know what emo means. they don't even understand the music style! they think that my chemical romance are heavy metal. i mean, what the hell?! ok, i'm quiet, and listen to heavy metal, and my chemical romance and rock and 'emo music' and hate chris brown, and love the emo look, but i don't go around hurting myself- which is the main trait of emo. like i said- dw about your friends.
