Well! A shark is not a mammal. It's considered a fish. But it is unique in it's fish status. Most all fish have bones. Except for the teeth the shark is pretty much cartilage. That's the reason the are not many fossels from the shark like other fishes. Other than the teeth! But to answer your question, Yes it is a fish. But in it's own category, along with the rays! The reproduction is not like fish. They, unlike true fish, have sex. BUT!! In recent research it has been discovered that a female shark can reproduce without having sex! Must be something in the water! LOL! It's all true! Have fun!

As everyone else has already said - they are fish, but like you I must admit that it baffled me for a wee while too. I knew that some species gave birth to live young, as oppose to the egg - laying, boney fishes. Then a revelation enlightened me, they don't suckle their young. Is this what confused you too? I personally believe they should be classified in a seperate category to fish, they're nowt like them are they? They have cartiligious skelebobs not boney ones, they have internal sexual intercourse not external like other fish, as already said some give birth to live young not eggs, they don't own a swim - bladder they have an over - sized liver to aid buoyancy, most sharks have 5 gills instead of the 1 boney fish have. Nuff said, does anyone else agree?
