It's not a real movie. They are actors playing the part of scared teens and pretends to video tape the woods. That's marketing. It's the director's way and the idea of it makes it appealing to many people. It makes people get interested in the movie.

No it is not a "true" story. However, while making it, the 3 actors were actually alone in the woods for a number of days. They had a basic map that led them around to more film reels, and basic script outlines. There were other people (director, ect) in the woods following them out of sight, and would russle the tent, and make sounds to make them feel authentically frightened.

No. If it were real, that would make it property in a police investigation. It wouldn't have ended up as an edited movie. At best you'd find it as footage in Dateline, 20/20, or 60 Minutes.
