  • We were in Ireland once and my uncle lost his Collie dog . He was in bits about it and my aunt just couldn't stop crying. We searched the woods and fields for two days to no avail. The day after I took a walk to the shop , which was about a mile away. As I walked back I happened to look down a side lane and in the distance I saw Tara ( the dog ) limping towards me !! When i got her back to the house tears flowed once more but thankfully this time , of joy.
  • We had a parrot that flew onto a low branch and then another a bit higher and higher and higher.... until he was nearly 70 feet up these tall oak trees. We couldn't climb the trees. And he wouldn't come down. So we called a tree surgeon/climber and asked if he would come out and help. He said it was his day off and no. We said "$100!!!" He changed his mind. We showed him where the bird was and he got his gear on and climbed way up there. The bird didn't move, stayed right there waiting. He got real close to the bird and then he asked us if the bird bites. My husband and I looked at each other, both of us in near tears at losing our sweet Baby and yelled "NO!!!" SO the guy grabs our Baby, screams when he got bit, and stuffed the bird in a burlap sack and comes back down. He said the bird did bite him. We said he doesn't bite when he's down on the ground (which is true, he wasn't a biter) LOL!!!! But the guy forgave our deception and said he would have done the same thing if it was his bird.
  • My dogs were rescues from a puppy mill, so they really didn't trust people when I took them in. One morning my problem child, Oscar, got off his lead and began running terrified circles around the yard (oh yeah, it's 5 acres of yard) trying to escape. He would not come to me no matter what I did. Then he made a beeline for the drive which leads to a busy road and I was so afraid a car would hit him. I hoped he would get tired and just stop running. Uh uh. Puppies have lots of energy. Having lost site of him I grabbed my car keys and headed down the drive to see if I could spot him. I took my other dog, Ducky, with me. These two are so inseparable they might as well be glued together. I finally spotted Oscar and stopped the car. I let Ducky out on his lead and the second Oscar saw him he came right on over and hopped in the car. Lucky for me that worked or I don't know what would have happened to the little fella.
  • My daughter and I adopted a corgi/chihuahua mix from a local humane society. We were getting ready to take him to the vet for the first time. Our house front door was open as I was opening the car doors. The dog took off down the street as my daughter and I chased him. He cut through our neighbor's yards and almost got hit by 2 cars in the main road cose to where we live. We chased him back towards our home. He ran into the car, since I left the door open. We never let him out off of a leash again.
  • My mom's dog was always trying to escape out the front door, unleatched gate, anything. We had a few instances of someone knocking at the door to return him. However, he once bolted out our door, down the block, and into the neighbor's house. That was embarassing.
  • Several months ago, one of my dogs Layla found a way to get out of the fence. She was missing and I scanned the neighborhood for hours. She was gone for days. One night I was driving home from work on the highway. Out of the clear blue sky, something told me to turn on this one road and that Layla would be there. I turned and the first mobile home on the right was where I found her in the front yard. It was unbelievable. I called to her and she jumped in my SUV. I went to the door and talked with the homeowners. They told me that they had been feeding her and they were getting ready to put an add in the paper. This is a true story and I think it is a very heartwarming experience of finding an escaped animal.
  • My Bella, a ferrel cat that I took in. Very skiddish, afraid of everything. I had to shred a lot of papers one day, never thinking it would freak her out. I looked 13 hours for her. I cryed, I thought she got out. I was exhausted, all done in, when she came sashaying down the stairs like a queen. She heard me calling her, she saw me looking under the bed she was under. She is totally black, I was probably looking at her, she didn't care. I was sooo relieved to see her I cryed some more. Needless to say, I haven't shredded anything since:)
  • been there done that
  • My min pin lily got out of the house for two hours and ran across every street into every parking lot, nearly killing herself several times until a couple who also had a dog stopped and help me corner her. Good thing I love the little brat.
  • Right now, because she's still a puppy (Shipookie), Lady Bugg escaping to the upstairs and under the bed is frustrating enough!
  • We were having a hurricane and the wind blew our screen door open and my parent's dog bolted out the door. All of us ran outside chasing the dog up and down the street and in between houses. The dog was having a blast but we were soaked and trying to stand up in the wind chasing her all over the place. We did catch her and thankfully everyone was safe.
  • Let Stanley run it is in a beagles nature. Lay a piece of your clothing down where the dog entered the woods and come back and the dog will generally lay down and wait for your return. We have to do this with beagles when rabbit hunting and they jump a deer. mR Bill
  • I lost my dog Justice and was driving around late one night calling for him. I didn't realize a policeman was following me with his lights out. AS I was leaving the subdivision he pulled me over and wanted to know why I was crying out for justice in the middle of the night. It took some explaining
  • My dog was always running away. He would go to other people's house, just walk through their front doors and start eating their dog's food. Sometimes we would get a call from a bar over 10 miles away saying they had Shasta. When my dad would go to get him, everyone in the bar would say, "Bye Shasta!" One time, he went missing right before I had to go to school in the morning. Before we could find him, we headed off to school, which was about 2 miles away. Sure enough, there was Shasta running around licking the faces of all the schoolchildren. He was truly an amazing dog.
