  • Penrose tiling is a form of covering a flat surface with predictable tiles (not random shapes) so that the surface is completely covered and yet no two areas of the tiling are identical. Square tiling is the same if you shift one tile across; hexagonal (honeycomb) tiling is the same if you shift one tile at a slant; Penrose tiling (invented by Professor Roger Penrose) is never the same however you shift it.
