• Judge individuals, not groups.
  • Atheism is a shared perspective and that is the only thing linking atheists together, disbelief in a God.We aren't a people, we are individuals and as such can have a vast variety of fews on religion.their is no central system of code for us because we are not an organized group, simply people who share a common viewpoint.
  • I'm not sure, I suppose it would depend on the individual person and their reasons.
  • by definition the two belief systems are intolerant of each other - as to the people, i don't know
  • Some Atheists are religiously tolerant and some are not. It is unfair to group them one way or the other. In the same way, some Theists are religiously tolerant and some are not. The entire world agreed to include freedom of religion in the United Nations' Universal Declaration of Human Rights. See Article 2: The citizens of the United States think this freedom is just as important as the freedoms of speech or the press. All are part of the 1st Amendment of the U.S. Constitution: Even the Catholic Church seeks and supports the freedom of religion for all human beings. In the Vatican II document, Declaration on Religious Freedom, Dignitatis Humanae (Human Dignity), the Church states: The human person has a right to religious freedom. This freedom means that all men are to be immune from coercion on the part of individuals or of social groups and of any human power, in such wise that no one is to be forced to act in a manner contrary to his own beliefs, whether privately or publicly, whether alone or in association with others, within due limits. For the entire document, see: With love in Christ.
  • Good points. As a secular humanist, I've come across a few atheists who are almost irrationally angry and bitter about the church, and many of them also seem to fall for the Cult of the State.
  • How about tolerant but often annoyed? ;-)
  • It depends on the atheist and often their reasons for becoming one. Those who are an atheist because a religion has wronged them in some way, generally aren't as tolerant I have noticed. While on the other hand, those who just do not believe in God due to proof seem to be a bit more tolerant.
  • Depends on the atheist. Personally I consider myself quite tolerant of religion - being concerned more with what an individual is like than what god they worship. I would consider myself rather intolerant of very stupid, lazily-thought-out, badly researched and obviously wrong statements of "fact" used to justify a particular god though...
  • If you're trying to ask whether Atheists tolerate religious people or not, in my experience, Atheists are tolerant of religious people but not all the way around. Most Atheists just want to live and let live but the religious people make that very difficult
  • I am extremely tolerant until they start telling me that I'm going to hell.
  • Atheists have yet to fly a plane into a building, nor start a Crusade.
  • Mostly tolerant, just like most of any other group; it's just the intolerant ones you hear from, and the rabid ones that stick in your mind (again, just like any other group).
  • This is a very hypocritical question at best. If religious people weren't so intolerant of non-believers, they wouldn't even know that they exist. It's the bigotry and the hate of the religious people that make non-believers intolerant. You take any group of people, no matter how tolerant and open-minded they are and you push them around enough till one day, they have to fight back. At that point, then you turn around and accuse them of being intolerant and claim to be persecuted. Isn't this in essence what's happening in the Gaza Strip with the Jews and the Palestinians?
  • In my experience, atheists are more religiosly tolerant than religious people.
  • This is the same as the intelligence question. Asking questions about groupings like this is just begging for and creating prejudices. Look at individual people - not the groupings they identify with.
  • Pretty tolerant. When was the last time an atheist flew a plane into a building or shot an abortion doctor?
  • Religiously indifferent
  • It is my observation that in general aithiest have contempt for people who believe in God. Of course everyone is an individual and opinions will vary from person to person. Most religious people believe in and live a life of peace and goodwill towards others. The ones who fight religious wars are usually just using religion as a vehicle in their pursuit of power and wealth. They manipulate religious people to achieve their selfish goals. They are not truly Godly people and they are usually extremist and liars.
  • I think that in general, atheists are reasonable tolerant. Of course, you will get the occasional nut, but for the most part I think atheists are alright. They don't seem to gun down people who don't comply with their beliefs, or fly planes into buildings, start crusades, or attempt to massacre other groups of people, or at least, not nearly as much as theists do.
  • Both. People like Richard Dawkins and his followers are very intolerant. Others are very tolerant, they just don't believe in God.
  • I'm very intolerant of the bullshit on either side. Atheists who say they are merely because mommy mad them go to church when they wanted to play I'm not tolerant of just like I'm not tolerant of the mommy who forced the same person to go to church against his or her wishes. I'm very intolerant of people who demand the laws of the land all be based on their religious beliefs. Secular law doesn't take religion into consideration therefore it can't be intolerant of religion. it merely says keep your bullshit out of politics and you can get a tax break, but they never want to stop there and almost always want the best of everything..a tax break so they can push their politics on everyone. I'm very intolerant to that so i say lets bankrupt the bastards. Whenever a church engages in anything to do with raising money turn them into the IRS and make them account for every single penny.
  • When is the last time an Atheist showed up at your door claiming to be trying to show you the truth?
