  • As possum1254 says, "was" is correct because you're speaking of the sum of money, not the individual dollars. You would say, "The $3 dollars was for my two brothers and me", but "The three cupcakes were for my two brothers and me". Also note the spelling of "grammar".
  • Let's think for one second that we are in a different contry. And I'm being paid with cows... Would you say then: The twenty cows WAS to pay me - The twenty cows were to pay me - The same rule HAS to aply...???
