I would just say that I live in DC. My Dad lives in Maryland, but works in DC.
-
You wouldn't have a state. Washington D.C is not a part of a state.
-
Most people I have ever met who live in Washington, DC say that they live in Washington, DC. This part of the US is no longer part of Maryland nor Virginia. It is not a state, but the nation's capital.
-
DC is the District of Columbia. It is not a state, but neither is it a territory. It is a federal district which also included Arlington, VA and Alexandria, VA until 1846.
-
I would say you don't have a state. Just say you live in D.C., yo!
-
My sister lives in DC. When asked, she says she lives in DC.
-
Everyone around here says "D.C." To say VA or MD would be incorrectly assigning it. Even though D.C. is not a state, it is definitely referred to in its own right and even has a baseball team now!!
-
It's the District of Columbia, an own region (and not a US state).
-
You live in DC

I grew up in DC. That is, I grew up in Silver Spring, which was close enough to DC that my school bus had to actually enter DC to go to school. Whenever I say I'm from Maryland, people automatically assume that I'm from the Eastern Shore, Baltimore, or Annapolis, which doesn't fit the culture of the area where I grew up, which I actually find to be insulting. I'll always be a Washingtonian, even though I didn't actually ever live within the borders of the city.

What state do DC people have to pay state taxes to and if they don't why not?
-
You would not say either. You would say I live in Washington DC, and since it is the capital, anybody in the country would know what you are talking about. Washington DC is a district- DC means District of Columbia. Maryland and Virginia both surround DC, but no, if you were to live in DC, you would just say you lived in Washington DC.
-
I live in Maryland it it seems to be the other way around, I hear people almost braggingly say they live in DC when they really live in Silver Spring or Laurel or Rockville..places just outside DC and not really in DC.
-
Washington is a Federal District. It has it's own governing body and is not a part of either state.
