Is it Beau?

Beau. I didn't know it was supposed to sound like "boo", though. Out of curiosity, are you American?
-
pretty sure it's beau.... that's the only way I've read it anyway!!

Re: the now popular expression "boo": The French is most likely the original source. (And I'd bet "someone" [an incredibly modest contributor on AB] knows this answer! Whaddabout it, Sym?) From what I know, its "Beau" and pronounced "bow". ;-)

Beau but it sounds more like BOW (what you put on a present)

I've never heard a French girl refer to her boyfriend as beau. I believe that is just an English expression taken from the French language.
-
Beau is pronounced "bow".
-
Beau. I use that term alot when refering to mine (especially on here) It is pronounced 'bo' or 'bow' It is more of a term of endearment to me about him. But then again, I call my son 'Bo', just short for Brother.

Beau - it is the masculine form of the adjective beau/belle meaning handsome or beautiful. It is pronounced the same as bow.
-
It is "ami" for boyfriend and "amie" for girl friend. If you want to refer to your male lover it would be "amoureux". Beau is the masculine form of beautiful in french, however many American's adapted it to mean boyfriend. My son's name is Beau.

Where I live, we use the word 'chum.' If you are living with him he's your 'conjoint.'

Copin. It means male friend but is used colloquially to refer to a boyfriend. Copine is used for girlfriend. Petit ami, though the traditionally correct phrase, is somewhat diminutive or "cutesy". Beau, as others have said, is the French word for handsome but it is also used to identify in-laws. Beau-père is father-in-law and beau-frère is brother-in-law. (The feminine form, belle, is used as well. Belle-mère is mother-in-law, and belle-soeur is sister-in-law.) If a woman were to introduce a man as her beau it could be inferred that he was her brother-in-law. Used to identify a boyfriend, the word 'beau' is being grossly misused.
