  • Maybe they don't have an Uncle Sam, I know I don't...
  • Uncle Sam
  • It's convenient.
  • By single parents you must mean women, because statistically when parents divorce - the womens income falls below the poverty line and the mens virtually stays the same.. I don't know any single mother who would boast that they HAD to use food stamps, section8 housing, or anyother form of welfare (i.e. Uncle Sam)because their Ex "forgot" to pay his child support - for six months!!!!
  • He must be a very generous person your Uncle Sam, helping all those women all over the world.
  • Why do people assume that a single parent can't afford to raise their child without financial help? I happen to know a couple single mothers who are raising their kids without Welfare and food stamps. Not all single moms or dads are teens who can't get a job other than McDonalds.
  • Anyone, who raises a child, should boast. I dont remember, Uncle Sam, having a job to pay for this. I am pretty certain, that she has contributed to the government.
  • You shouldn't make generaliztions. The government didn't help me at all. Since I worked a 12 1/2 hour night shift when I won custody of my daughter, I had to hire a nanny. As an employer, I had to go through the process of getting a federal tax I.D. and paying her state and federal taxes.
  • Uncle Sam? Only thing Uncle Sam did for Australia was go into such a recession that we are soon likely to overtake the American Dollar on the world currency market.
  • I dont think all single parents turn to goverment benefits,my mother had 7 of us and she worked until she retired, and i was a single mother for 4 years and i worked to support myself and my son.
  • That so called little bit of money from Uncle Sam at tax time, usually dosent last that long. The help our government gives people is a joke, because it really dosent help the folks that truly need it. I will raise my girls on my own, before I ever ask the Government for help again.
  • I am a single parent and have had absolutely no and I meen no help from uncle sam.So what is your point?
  • You do not need to be a single parent in the UK Two Parents Two Salaries and still the government gives child benefit for every child. Millionaires claim it too, and other families the more children the better off you are. Some people in the UK could not afford to go to work they would earn less than the Government benefits; Young girls get pregnant here just to get their own apartment. These are the reasons that people do not give credit to single parents that actually work hard to do it alone.
  • My mother most certainly did not rely on Uncle Sam. She raised me by working hard and doing without a lot of things in order to keep her head (and mine) above water. To be fair, my dad was not a deadbeat dad and paid child support. She did a fine job IMO. . .with NO help from Uncle Sam.
  • Uncle Sam never comes to the kids birthday party. He's a drunk!
  • I don't have any Uncle's named Sam, nor have I ever recieved any type of government funding, aid, etc. Quit talking out your *ss!
  • Well, there are men that fully support their offspring, but if they do not, what do you suggest? Personally, I would not like to see women and children on the streets starving(generally the women are the prime-carers) because their fathers do not support them. Mothers can work, sure, but only if they have suitable, affordable childcare, it is illegal and abusive to leave babies home-alone!
  • Not all single parents get assistance. My mom didn't and when I was a single parent, I didn't either. (I'm not a single parent anymore tho.)
  • UUUm, maybe because the fathers do not take responsibility?? Remember it takes two???
  • What's disturbing is the fact that they'd have to. If you're capable of producing a child...you should damn well be prepared to provide for him or her. You wanna play..be ready to pay!
  • unfortunately for uncle sam he tends to be widely overlooked and under appreciated.
  • lET ME BREAK IT DOWN.... Iam a 21 yr old single latina mother ...Iam not on Food stamps And I never applied for welfare I graduated High School With High Honors Iam Went to college now Iam a (CNA) With no help from the gov. NO man Just me Buy myslef ..
  • Uncle Sam is not literally a relative...
  • government cheese is a natural brain blocker? lol
  • I raised a special needs child with no help from Uncle Sam in any form. I worked two jobs and occasionally a third job, but never did Uncle Sam contribute a dime to my son's welfare. And it's not boasting - it's FACT, my friend!
  • Really? I'm a single parent that raised my child with no help from friends or family and for the life of me I can't remember Uncle Sam really doing a whole lot for me. I made too much money for any type of assistance, I'm still on a waiting list for assistance with daycare expenses (my son is now 20), I did get the Child Tax credit but to be honest that was a drop in the bucket considering his father didn't zilch to suuport him...Is that what you meant?
  • Your question assumes that all single parents receive (I'm assuming you mean) financial support from their government. Frankly, it is a gross generalization and an insult to those parents who do not. The money that we ALL pay in taxes funds the programs that were developed to assist those who are in need. By utilizing such monies, it should not reflect on their own hard work that goes into raising children. A lot of employers do not offer full-coverage insurance and if they do, the rates to cover an entire family can be exorbitant. Not to mention the costs of childcare while said parent works. If the other parent does not assist in the support of their children, what is the other to do? Choose between a roof over their family’s head and food on the table, or allowing a child to go without proper medical attention when needed?
  • This is very similar to women who claim they 'don't need a man' and you find out they are living on child support. In fact, they are living on the support still be contributed by their ex husband. In divorce forums, there is a phenomena called 'child support refugees'. Child support runs out when the child is 18 or so, in most states. All of sudden, these women, who didn't need a man, suddenly are desparately looking for a man....the child support ran out.
