They did many things, like enjoy people's face to face company, they used public phones if they needed to. They weren't obsessed with always listening to music or keeping track of their friends and family. They arranged their time better. They took notes with a pencil and paper. They read books and did sports outside. They had hobbies.

well in those days it took more effort to kill a person. So the extra time and energy they had was spent on killing each other, the invention of extremely destructive weapons meant that something had to be done to fill up all this extra spare time, and thus the computer game was invented. In 1958 the first computer game, tennis, was invented by William Higinbotham. The Uzi sub machine gun (the mother of little effort massive killing guns) was first used in 1956. Thus my point is proved.

Well after chores, ma and I'd sit back on the porch and chew the cud for a few hours. We'd talk about the weather and read a bit of that Reader's Digest together. Ever` now an then we'd make up sum lemonade and watch the bluejays & the sparrows. The chiltlins (kids) would busy themselves in the barn; swinging off the attic rope into the hay. Runnin through the stalks playing "go seek". Sumtimes we'd head on over to the barn and do a little square dancin'. Uncle Erb would play the fiddle and tap his foot. After supper, I'd usually grab a piece of wood and shuck until the sun went down. Made me sum fine toothpicks in my day, yes I did... (I say this in jest, but I really wish we could go back to the days of simplicity. When I'm 50, I swore I'd go live on an island and carve canoes for the locals and tourists.)
