  • A hovercraft will only fly as high as its skirt. The skirt forms a loose seal with the ground, which traps air under the craft to provide the lifting force. If the craft lifts high enough to open a gap between the skirt and the ground, the air pressure under the hull will be reduced and the hovercraft will drop until the skirt touches the ground again.
