  • Your 2nd cousin
  • He would be your 'fist cousin once removed'. You share the same great-grandparents and are separated by one generation.
  • Some of my cousins and I are involved in research of our family. It's very interesting and extremely involving. I've discovered people I never knew existed, close relatives! Going back, I'm also seeing that some of them are still young enough to be alive. But they were last heard of in Southern states. I had a brother that just died in 1994 that I never met. He was my father's son before he met my mother. This son had two sisters. I regret never having met them. There is so much information that my (now dead) aunts could have provided to us. During our very young lives, we were just living life for ourselves and never thought about ancestors. But, with pictures popping up of great grandparents, first cousins, aunts and uncles, these faces become real and we are getting curious. Looking at these faces, I realize that they had lives too! They worked, bathed, slept, got up, went to school, got married, had children and did what everyone else does -- they were just inhabiting this planet BEFORE us. THEY WERE REAL PEOPLE! All of this has made me think about other things. Like, the other planets existing then (which I'm sure they knew nothing of), the creatures under the sea, life in other countries, etc. We tend to only think about what went on in America, say in the 1800s. My advice to everyone is this. Ask your living relatives about the past. If possible, get a cam and film interviews them, tape record their recollections and, most of all, make sure to get their pictures and Bible if they pass on. Can you imagine how incredible it will be to show actual relatives talking and expressing themselves to future generations? Maybe, even giving some advice! VERY IMPORTANT. These people have LOTS to tell, so drill them good. That will make it much easier for you as you get involved in your work. Also, get your children and other family members involved. Once they start seeing pictures and hearing their history, they'll surely come aboard.
